August 2009-Nearly two years later and the bottle is still holding up strong!
January 2011-Still in perfect condition!
What can I say? I've owned many water bottles before and it was only by accident that I ran into the Fashy-brand bottles on Amazon; I am forever glad that I did.
After using this bottle for 2 years, it is hands down the best one I've ever used.
################# LONG TERM EDIT - PLEASE READ ###################
I have two of these Fashy transparent bottles and still love them to death (so does my mum), but one thing to note that I also experiencing a "yellowing" of the bottles. I am located in the Bay Area, so I don't think it has to do with the local water supply. Anyways, it doesn't affect the performance, but I loved the original clear, clean look. It still has it, but with a tinted yellow discoloration.
Also, the smooth side of the hot water bottle has begun to peel somewhat. It has not affected the job performance. I tend to abuse my bottles (lie down on them -- all 165lbs of me) and put boiling water, so YMMV.
PROS:
1) Huge mouth and anti-"spurt" lip prevent water spitting back out like those old rubber ones
2) OMG It's transparent!!! No more guesswork about how much hot water is inside!
3) VERY easy to tighten, and SECURE bottle cap! I've literally sit on this thing with boiling water, and filled to the max, and it has never leaked
4) Leakproof design, unlike old rubber counterparts, due to the fact that is made in a single mold, without any kind of
5) It's frikken' transparent!!
CONS:
1) No doubt about it. For $24-27 shipped, it is expensive, but IMO if you use this thing daily like I do for muscle pain/helping with sleep/feel warm and toasty in a cold room, then it's damn worth it (this is coming from a loyal tightwad gazetter :P)
2) Yellowing of the bottle
3) Long time, top portion, smooth side of the bottle begins to peel. :(
NEUTRAL:
1) Sweet lemony smell for the first few weeks, then disappears
I chose this one from amoung the other Fashy hot water bottles because it is transparent. So I was disappointed that in a very short time, it has yellowed... a deep, icky yellow (!) However, I still give it five stars--it functions just as it is intended to and is well-made. Who knows, the yellowing could be due to minerals in my local water, or using too high a temperature or both. I still recommend it and it's a plus to be able to see the water level when filling.
I recommend buying the clear bottle since you can visually inspect if the seam to see if it is getting weak in any areas. The seam is thick and strong, but it appears to be thinner at the neck. So I try to avoid stressing that area.
There was a lemon scent when new to mask the plastic smell. I washed the outside of the bottle with warm water and a mild soap and the lemon smell disappeared. I've used one of the bottles about a dozen times now and there's still a faint generic plastic smell, but it's only noticeable if I have the bottle an inch away from my nose.
The plastic is pretty thick which means it take a while for the heat to radiate through it. I preheat it under hot tap water for about 10 seconds before filling it.
When I fill it with hot tap water (mine is about 120
But, I'm here today to tell you that using the hot water bottle instead of electricity has been a wonderful experience. I fill my bottle and toss it into the foot of my bed a few minutes before retiring for the day. Warm feet have been found to enhance sleep (I did a study a few years back).
I used one of those pink hot water bottles until I SPRUNG A LEAK. I chose this clear one as a replacement and it is great. It is sturdy AND pliable. I fully expect to enjoy this one for MANY YEARS TO COME.

Also there are engraved instructions on the lip if you can't read them, they say: "Fill not more than 2/3 full and expel air. Ensure stopper is securely fixed. Store empty and with stopper removed."
She said: 'Oh no, it's not the same!' So, I decided that I must get one (they were in every Boots store) and bring it home. But, alas, we ran out of time on our trip and never were able to get one. When I returned home, I searched and searched for a hot water bottle, but to no avail. Either America thinks they are too old-fashioned, or they haven't wised up yet!
Anyway, I ended up looking online and I found this model right here on Amazon. Seriously, look no further if you are looking for a hot water bottle. It's a bit pricey, but SO worth it!!
Pros: transparent!! Which means you can see how much water is going in
ribbed on one side -- dual temperatures. If one side is too hot, flip it over
wide neck -- no spills!
durable material -- it's built to last a long time
retains heat like you wouldn't believe. Mine lasts 8 hours!
Cons: price is a bit high
doesn't come with a cover
This hot water bottle is amazing! I see now what the Brits are fond of, it's so cozy and warm. Far superior to a heating pad and/or an electric blanket. =) =) =)
This has been a great replacement, it has one textured side and a smooth side to flip to when the water has cooled a little.
I also have one filled with a small amount of water which I keep in the freezer to put on sore muscles or bruises.
Americans tend to turn the heat up when the temperature drops. In Europe you fill your water bottle with hot water and slip it into the bed 30-60 minutes before bedtime and have toasty toes for hours. I usually wrap mine in a towel to help insulate the bottle and slow the rate of temperature dropping -- some nights the water is still lukewarm 24 hours later. Going to sit outside for your son's football game? Bring your hot water bottle with you to keep warm. Going on a long drive and the heater doesn't do the job well in the back seat -- yup, take the hot water bottle with you. Please note that if the water is really hot that you should wrap in a towel -- the heat will linger longer and you'll appreciate it. Are you feet always cold at work -- think hot water bottle and heat without electrical cords.
If I get chilled during the day I heat up the water bottle and put it on my lap while reading or watching TV and even while using the computer -- it is a plush kind of heat and always feels great. Now I won't have to fight my husband for space next to the warmth.
And, if you think about it it is the better alternative to turning up the heat -- fill bottle, reuse the water, heat again, and then repeat. My cat waits until I'm asleep to find her spot on the bottle under the blanket and keep warm.
The product arrived in time, well packaged, and after a couple week of using it I give the Fashy Hot Water Bottle five stars *****
Next Christmas they will be my gifts to family membesr and get them into the eco-friendly heat source.
Ahahaha. Hahaha. How stupid of me.
Anyway, I decided to buy this hot water bottle for my mother, first--she seemed really nostalgic, and I felt that it would be nice to get her a proper one, especially since she has been having trouble falling asleep lately. It worked excellently for her, and I eventually decided to get one of my own, and it's been a wonderful life since. I probably abuse my water bottle more than most people--I've used it several times a day for back ache or muscle cramps, in addition to it's intended use. Let me tell you, it's very good for removing the grump from anyone.
But, now that I've finished explaining why water bottles, in general, are heavenly, I should probably explain why I like this water bottle so much--most likely, it won't be anything that someone has yet to mention.
The Fashy water bottle has a solid construction, and while it does seem to have seams, they appear to be well connected and sound. One side of the bottle is smooth, while the other has ridges, so you can somewhat choose between your heat level. The cap closes screws on tightly and is waterproof, and the mouth is wide and doesn't splash back. The material holds up well to a moderate amount of pressure (like what would happen if you rested your legs on it), and probably more. It does not distend, nor does it feel like it will pop.
I, too, fill the water bottle with boiling water. I find that this makes the heat last longer. Moreover, since the material is so thick and insulates so well, I find it rather hard to get burned by the bottle. Filling it up with hot tap water makes it warm--but not sufficiently enough for me.
The product does arrive with a slight lemony smell, but this quickly disappears. If you are severely bothered by it, rinsing the hot water bottle out a few times is sufficient to make it unnoticeable.
As a side note--if you have a school-age child with the notorious backpack of doom, I would suggest buying this for them. I certainly had trouble finding something reusable and warm to put against my back as I slept--the closest I ever managed to come was a cat, but those also come with scratch marks.
I'm a bit of a hot water bottle veteran, having grown up with quite cold winters and no central heating. I'm used to your standard issue rubber hot water bottle. This is a bit more expensive but well worth the money. First, it's transparent, so you can see what you're doing with less likelihood of being scalded while you fill it. Second, it feels hotter, and it stays hot longer. It's still warm when I wake up, while my old one used to be stone cold by morning. Third, the texture is less unpleasant. The rubber ones are, well, rubbery, and they feel a bit gross even through the thin cloth cover I use (though I imagine if you used a thick plush covering you might not have that problem). And finally, there's none of that horrible rubbery smell.
In short, if you can't keep a dog, your significant other objects to freezing toes in the middle of the night, and your offshore retirement fund still isn't big enough to enable you to move to Vanuatu, give this little German baby a shot. You have nothing to lose but your 17.50.
First, there is in fact a visible, touchable seam. (Note the contradiction among reviewers regarding this feature. Reviewer Miltonia states, "recommend buying the clear bottle since you can visually inspect ... the seam." Wish I had noticed this before believing those that state there's no seam.)
Second, it doesn't stay warm longer than regular water bottles (couple hours) - my main reason for shelling out for this. (Note Reviewer Ashwin Mudigonda states, "Pouring hot water from the faucet does not work AT ALL! It feels lukewarm at best." Concur. Also wish I'd noticed this statement.) BUT, like standard bottles, the bottle label states, "Do Not Use Boiling Water." So what to do?
Third, though there's no materials label, it sure looks to be made of the same stuff as regular water bottles, and the cross-hatch feature is the same. And most disconcertingly, given the raves, the product label states, "Check the hot-water bottle and closure regularly for wear and damage, we recommend replacement after five years".
Bottom Line: This is an ordinary hot water bottle at a sucker, import price. Don't fall for the mass hallucination.
I use this product theraputically for abdominal bloating and/or pain. As others have stated, I like the two different sides of the bottle applying the "rough" less hot side in the beginning right over a polo shirt then as it cools use the "smooth" warmer side as it is too hot in the first hour or two but perfect for the next hour or two. I use hot tap water probably about 110 degrees and it is a fantastic addition to my household medical kit as well as take along on vacations.
Recommended strongly for patients with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome".
Made in Germany and not inexpensive but for me well worth the cost as the craftsmanship is better than the rubber types made elsewhere and with thusly last longer.
VERY HAPPY with this product although a bit pricy but will buy another two for backup!
2 YEARS LATER: I have increased the temperature of my water heater to 130 - 140 degrees...I now use the smooth side of the bottle with a light hand towel over my tee shirt and it really is great for the above reasons; knocks down the severe pain in 5 - 10 minutes and lets me get my sleep right away most of the time.
This item should be listed somewhere in the "THEREPY" section of AMAZON as others may not be aware of the superior abilities of this product and its years of use as opposed to less expensive bottles that leak much too quickly.
I do want to emphasize that the "rough" side of the bottle is warm as opposed to the much hotter smooth side with which I use a thin hand towel between me and my lower abdomen area!
Transparent Classic Hot Water Bottle - Made in Germany
...it's now 3 years later I'm still using my hot water bottle - it's in great shape, and still holds the heat with no cracking or leaking anywhere. Great product!
I still like those British models- sturdy, well-engineered, hold the heat for 12+ hours-- but they are becoming scarce, especially in the USA.
So, I took a chance on this German model.
It is nice. Sturdy, holds heat well, good overall size...just right neck--does not burp back-out water when you are pouring it in, its transparency is very useful for seeing quantity in bottle, it has a faint lemony smell (as stated by earlier reviewers) that is barely noticeable and gone within a month of use. So lots of good.
Only bad is twice the screw top has come loose in the night and you guessed it I awoke in a swamp. Ick! The screw top, I think, may be a little too shallow. And the way I surf around on my bed at night, my movement may have caused the top to unwind.
So now I make absolutely, positively sure that the top is threaded in as far as it goes and then I wrap the bottle in a plastic bag and tie the bag tight, knotted against itself. Better safe than sorry; a bit of a nuisance.
Now this may be just my bottle...my opinion, of course, is based only on 1 example.
I lost my boyfriend this winter and I use the hotwater bottle to keep something warm in the bed beside me.
I usually put boiling water in it and have had no problems. When you use really hot water like this, it is obviously VERY hot, and needs some sort of a cover (towel, wool cover, etc.) because if you touch it directly it WILL burn you.
When mine needs cleaning, I put a vinegar/water mixture inside it and let it sit overnight. This gets it as clean as the first day it arrived.
I've had other hot water bottles before, and this by far is the highest quality. Worth every penny!
Here is my experience with the hot water bottle I received:
1. This is a significantly undersized hot water bottle compared to the traditional red hot water bottle both in both length, width, and amount of water it can hold. When the thing arrived it is absolutely envelope flat thin vinyl---which makes the inflated shipping rate unconscionable. My husband's eyes got big and asked HOW do you plan to put ANY water in this thing??? It is like putting water in an envelope with a filler neck attached to it. Great, after I paid 5 times (w/shipping)what a regular Walmart hot water bottle costs.
2. The fill neck on this hotwater bottle is NOT oversized as many raters have posted. It is the same size or smaller of than a regular hot water bottle.
I just don't get why so many raters have been intentionally untruthful about this product. Shame on you all as potential buyers deserve to have honest posts. Amazon needs to carefully evaluate the source of the 5 star rating posts. Something is badly wrong here.
I like the transparency but most appreciate the apparent thickness of the water bottle itself.
Amazing how useful such an old fashioned apparatus remains.
The quality is also good, I recommend it
