Great Product - K. Wladyka on Mar 6, 2008

Definitely much better than any other heating pad I have used as nothing is able to match this amount of heat. I'm not fond of the manual switch and I use a small strap to keep the switch down.

Fantastic - B. Guillory on Apr 5, 2008

I've been looking for a heating pad that would actually get hot enough to do some good, after waisting my money on several of them that claimed to be the best I finally found one. Thermophore Moist Heating Pad is absolutely the best I've every used. I just wish they would make one that gets this hot in an automatic version.

Good Product - Meaningless Warranty Coverage - EngineerDude on Feb 3, 2011

I bought my thermophore eight months ago. I always took care of it, and thought of it as a valuable investment --in terms of money, but also because it is very useful in my medical care.

It worked very well... at first. Then it started to warm less and less. Till one day, it warmed no more.

I did not worry. The manual stated that the manufacturer stood behind their products and that they had a shop in US soil full of workers willing to fix their products for free if under warranty, or repair them for $30 if past warranty.

My thermophore was well within its warranty period. I sent it well packed with a copy of my original receipt.

I was then, in shock, when I received a form letter that informed that my warranty did not apply because my thermophore had been manufactured over three years ago. Yet at least as far as a consumer can tell, the date of manufacture is not written anywhere in the original box, its manual, or the device itself. And, if the device spent over three years in an Amazon warehouse, is that reason to declare a product ineligible for warranty coverage?

Why was this requirement never documented anywhere in the manual, in the warranty text, or the website of the manufacturer? And what about that $30 offer to fix the thermophore? I was instead, offered to be charged $40 instead.

Needless to say a disappointment! This company and its product might have at some point manufactured excellent products, but seems that the pernicious temptation to destroy customer loyalty by saving a few bucks has seeped in...

This is a manufacturer in decline. Look elsewhere for a good heating pad.

Thermophore Pad Is Wonderful - D. Bucklin on Feb 5, 2009

Comparing this pad to an ordinary drugstore pad is like comparing a rowboat to a battleship. I became aware of this product by visiting a friend who said to me "you are walking as if you are really in pain". I acknowledged that I was and he said "try this". Within 15 minutes I was searching for one for me on my phone internet browser while I was still using has pad...if you like a deep heat on your sore shoulders, don't even hesitate.
You will notice that the information says it has a "trigger" switch you have to hold down to have the unit on. Trust me, within 3 minutes you will understand and appreciate that switch.
Simply, it's more money, but it is worth it.

Heating Pad From The Fifties With A Modern Twist - krizolla on Oct 29, 2010

I was all excited to receive this heating pad based on the good reviews. Oh boy, was I in for a big disappointment. First of all, this pad cannot be used underneath the body, which is not mentioned anywhere, as I recall. Yes, I read the manual, and found out that you have to place this pad ON TOP of the area you wish to treat, do not lay on top of it, or something terrible may happen I guess. One strike, because I like to put a heating pad under my sore back, but this is a no no. Strike two is the fact that there is no way to control the temperature; it comes with just the one setting it has and that is that. Strike three, it lacks a timer, so you cannot set it to auto shot-off. To summerize my impression of this product, it seems to be lagging still in the last century based on looks, feel and function. The only positive is the fact that the cover is made out of some kind of a felt material, which absorbs moisture from the air and then releases this moisture back out and into your body during the heating cycle. One last thing, this pad is much heavier than anything I have ever seen. Sadly, I'll have to send it back. Had I known all the little details prior to purchasing, I would have ordered something else. Lesson learned: heating pads should never be purchased online, unless you know exactly what you are in for.

Beware When You Buy A Thermophore! - Crossandra on Nov 4, 2011

It's not Amazon or another company, but beware of Battle Creek Equipment! I purchased this product on February 17, 2011 and used it the same way I did with my first Thermophore heating pad. After about 6 months the light stayed on, but the heating pad did not heat up. After paying almost $9.00 to ship back to the company(Battle Creek Equipment-that's where you need to send it back to) they said it wasn't a manufacturing problem and wouldn't repair or replace the heating pad. I could buy another one to replace the unit that I had for $40.00. I then called to ask why? They were not very nice on the phone and said something I did made the heating pad not work. Well, since my original heating pad lasted about 4 or 5 years before it went bad(Battle Creek- Thermophore) why was it something I did this time if I used it the same way? Be very careful if you do want to go with a Thermophore. According to the customer service representative, if you don't use it according to their directions specifically, you can't get your unit repaired OR replaced and you lose more money trying to send it back!

Auto Switch Thermophore Heat Pad - M&M on Nov 29, 2010

The product states that it has an auto switch, but did not say that it only lasts for 20 minutes. Because I do massage therapy that is not long enough. I returned the items and had to pay a 20% restocking fee. I have ordered the manual switch heat pads numerous times. This product was not good for my purposes. It should state the time limit on the ad for it!!! I was very unhappy with this purchase.

Great Heating Pad And Excellent Service / Delivery - chiman on Jun 7, 2008

The heating pad really works well and the moist heat penetrates deep! It feels great to be able to just relax and not have to worry about the timer also as this unit has the 20 minute cycle and will shutoff if you do not reset the cycle again.
The processing and delivery of the product was excellent as Isokinetics was able to give me the Fedex tracking info when I called and they delivered it that day! Thanks Amazon, my back thanks you too!

Almost...Perfect! - Hosta-Haven on Nov 8, 2010

When I turn on my heating pad, I let out an audible sigh of contentment. The heat makes me feel so warm and relaxed. I need to put a double layer blanket over my legs because it get's really HOT! When I say it is ALMOST perfect, I wish it had a thermostat so I could control the temperature. Instead, it quickly builds to hot and turns off in about 20 minutes. Then I have to click the on switch to start it up again.

WHAT I LOVE:

It's BIG! It covers my legs & torso.
It gets HOT - great when you're feeling achy or just not feeling well.

WHAT I DON'T LOVE:

No low, medium, & high settings.
It turns itself off after 20 minutes or so. I wish it would just stay ON.

I really do love it though for it's size and amount of heat thrown.

Gone To Junk ... - Mary Pritchard on Sep 22, 2011

This company used to produce quality products - pricey but quality. As of this day, they have very inferior product for still a high price. My square pad's control went out, it was like brand new. I called the company, they said mail it back to them. I did. Cost $10 to mail. Then got an email saying sorry, you need a new one, so buy one. I called again. They agreed to send me a refurbished one (promising that this was a ONE time offer). The thing's control is wacked to start. Piece of junk. Too bad it is the only one of it's kind and the concept is awesome. I have a large rectangular Thermophore bought in the 90's and it works beautifully. That was when the company had some pride. I thought the new control with timer would be a good investment. Save you money and heat towels in the microwave - avoid stress dealing with a lame company!!!

Thermophore -The Only Excellent Heating Pad - Still Kicking "coyot on Jan 2, 2009

This is the only heating pad I have found that gets hot enought to really help if you have chronic muscle pain. I have one that I have been using for years. Inside the pad the heating wire is looped around pieces of lead and it has 3 fusible links that will melt if it overheats. That never happened but over the years the connections at these broke on my old pad - easy enough to fix if you dont mind a little soldering and sewing. I have fixed my old pad a couple of times and am still using it but just bought a new one since my daughter has started using the old one. For me this pad is better than anything and I have used them all.

BEWARE!!! Huge Misrepresentation Of Product Being Sent To You - Tiffany Cozzo on Apr 5, 2011

The image of the product leads you to believe that this is the original thermophore brand heating pack in the red box. It even says "red box" at the end of the description. however when the product arrived in the mail, it was in a white box and said it is made by a company called battlecreek. This product is not anywhere near the quality of the original thermophore heating packs. The product was extremely misrepresented. The only positive thing i have to say is that i returned the product and was given a full refund without any problems.

Very Different From Any Heating Pad We Have Owned Before. - Michael S. Noel on Jun 30, 2009

Pros: Heavy Duty (has the feel of equipment rather than a toy). Nice big size. Moist heat is nice. Every indication is it will last a long time, Though we have only had ours a couple of months.

Cons: Size though listed in pros, can be a con in some cases. I figured that bigger was likely better , not always true, consider the medium size as well. It is much closer to a normal heating pad size. The Manuel (dead man switch) on this model must be gripped in your hand to keep it on, so if you go to sleep it turns off. This is a necessary safety feature because this baby does get hot. And turning it on and off is the only way to control the heat. So no real temp control. It is designed to put out a very warm 180 degrees and that is what you get.

At first I rated it 3 stars. But then I realized it was because maybe what we needed was just a heating pad and not a therapy appliance. It does exactly what it says it does and just by handling it you will know it is well built. If you want timers, temperature controls and so forth you may wish to look elsewhere.

Sooo Disappointed. Not Automatic At All. Have To Hold Down Button For Heat! - kmac1000 "kmac1000" on Aug 24, 2009

I am so disappointed in this product. It sells itself as automatic, but it is NOT. You have to manually hold down the button to get it to produce heat. Who wants to have to hold down a button to get it to work? There were versions sold as manual that described this. I purposely looked for one that was automatic to avoid having to hold down a button non-stop to get it to work. This product was sold as an automatic version (even the box says automatic). Having to hold down a button non-stop to get it to work doesn't qualify as automatic in my opinon. I feel like I have been misled. I am very disappointed. I can only imagine use of this item on a regular basis would be very uncomfortable, defeating the point of trying to releave tension. Do not purchase this if you are truly looking for a hands-free item (beyond initially turning it on).

Just An Excellent Heating Pad, Worth The Extra Coin - jaguar on Jan 12, 2010

Like many other reviewers, I previously owned some some cheap Walgreens heating pads and found them to be usable, but they are cheap and not well made, and prone to failure after a short time.

This is a great heating pad. I love the HUGE size, it can cover my entire back lenghtwise, or I can put it across my lower back and it wraps around my waist a little bit which is really nice.

It heats up faster than any other heating pad I've ever owned, and it also gets hotter. This means relief comes faster and I don't need to use it as long which are both important factors. I don't understand the few reviews where people say it's not hot enough, they either have a problem sensing heat, are just wrong, or got a bad unit (whith I doubt). It is so hot that I cannot last longer than 10 minutes with it turned on (it has a 20 minute timer).

The soft felt-like outer cover is really nice too. It is thick, soft, and a good heavy-duty fabric. Washable too.

Lastly, it comes with a nice LONG cord just in case you don't have an outlet too close by.

The ONLY downside is that it doesn't have any heat control, just on/off. I used to think this was a problem, but after using this I now realize that the hotter the better and the quicker the relief. For those that have very sensitive skin or want something they can set to low heat to use as a warmer, this is not the right product for you

Better Than What I Had - John Edward Trtek "B on Nov 16, 2009

I have chronic upper back and neck pain. This product, so far works the best for me. I like being able to control the temperature, but I do not like the time restriction (from 1 to 60 minute max) on the controls...when the time runs out the thing turns off and you have to reset it again if you want to use it longer.

Thermophore Heating Pad - Loretta Levy on Oct 3, 2009

The pad is a very good size and that is the specific reason to consider it. This model is better than my previous one, which was non-automatic. On that model you you have to depress the switch and hold it continously to receive heat. [[ASIN:B000ZHJS0G Thermophore Arthritis Pad Moist Heating Pad 14" x 27" - Automatic Switch stays heated for 30 minutes, which is much better. The problem with both models is there is no temperature setting and the pad gets too hot, at least for me. I would suggest the size is the most positive reason for purchase.

Really Reduces Muscle Pain! - S. A. Wallace "worn on Nov 29, 2008

This is the best moist heating pad ever, and the second one I've purchased. The first one lasted over 20 years, and I literally wore it out. I chose the pad with the manual safety switch, as I had before. You have to be really careful that you don't get it too hot, or you could get a burn or blister, so the pad would not be good for a person with poor circulation or diabetes, otherwise, it is fantastic. Wonderful for muscle muscle pain. Thank you

So Much Better Than Regular Pads - M. Rowe on Nov 2, 2011

my cheap heating pad died, and i was about to buy another $10 pad from my local store, when i decided to check amazon and see what they had. thermophore is sooo much better than the cheap ones from the grocery store. first off, it's HUGE, it covers my back with no problem. second, it gets really hot. it's also thicker and heavier than the regular ones. the one thing i had to get used to was the controller. it's just an on/off switch with a pause button. it doesn't have the temperature settings that the others do, but i don't mind this because i never used the low or medium setting on my old one. great product!

Perfect Heat Therapy After Breaking My Finger - John Queern "John in on Aug 22, 2011

I broke the little finger on my right hand just below the knuckle about three months ago. I had a partial cast on for four weeks, after which the pinkie and ring finger were incredibly stiff (it's amazing how just a few weeks of immobility can cause your muscles to tighten up).

I participated in hand therapy for 12 sessions. The most useful part of this therapy was heat treatment with stretching exercises. To heat the hand, they used a cool machine which bathes your hand in a whirlwind of hot shredded corn husks. After 15 minutes of heating, the hand is much looser and ready to stretch.

The corn husk machine costs thousands of dollars, unfortunately. Other alternatives suggested included hot water (wash lots of dishes), paraffin dip, old socks filled with rice and heated in the microwave (helpful!), and long hot showers.

I decided to try this moist heat pad after reading the reviews-- it sounded like just what I needed. It works great! It's cleaner than the corn husk machine, handy enough to keep at my desk (so I don't forget to loosen up) and has done wonders to loosen up my stiff fingers. There's plenty of room in the muff-shaped hot pad to stretch the hand in either open or closed fist positions. I use it to warm up the fingers first, then close the fist and stretch them out.

Using the pad helped me complete my hand therapy more quickly, and gives me a convenient way to continue working on the finger muscles for the next few months to maximize my range of motion. Great product!

I Wonder About The Quality Here - Publius "PC" on Mar 29, 2011

Bought Oct 2009; used it infrequently, but I wanted something good and reliable for when I did need it. Had not used it for many, many months and now suddenly the unit does not work at all. Won't light up, nothing. Seems like a faulty wiring connection (lit up briefly once) but it's out of its one-year warranty (written 3 2011) and the repairs would probably cost as much as a replacement, so be warned about the long-term reliability; mine at least stopped working for no apparent reason after a long period of not using it. Worked well when it did work but if the quality and reliability are so poor, for the price paid, what is the point, really?

Not Adjustable - Evzone "Plagal 3rd" on Jan 8, 2011

Simply, this heating pad works great in every way except one: the intense heat is either off or on. There are to temp adjustments. I consider that a huge problem.

Love The Blanket, Hate The Switch - J. Grigalunas "JG" on Aug 16, 2010

The heating pad is really a nice size; I have never seen such a large heating pad! The cover is very nice and is washable. The switch takes a little getting use to, one has to hold it down, and that does get tiring, so I put a rubber band around it, and when it gets too hot I release it. I would recommend a switch with different levels for heating, like my small heating pad I now own. One can set it on "1", set it on "2" for different heat levels. Had the switch been different, I would have rated it as a "5"............

Extra Hot Heating Pad - Fearless Knitter on Jan 27, 2010

By law home heating pads are limited to a certain temperature unless they have a manual safety switch which automatically shuts off if you let it go even momentarily.

This heating pad has a manual safety switch, so it can get extra hot.

For some people with some injuries, only the extra hot heating pads reduce pain and inflammation and restore mobility in the joints. It is wonderful to be able to provide this relief at home and not have to pay the expense of a physical therapy session just to get a hot enough heating pad to provide relief from severe pain and stiffness in my joints and impaired range of motion for a few hours.

Very strongly recommend this for you if you find most heating pads don't help much and you are careful not to fall asleep or anything else that could cause a burn. Not as safe as most heating pads, but much more effective at relieving my pain and allowing me to regain some use of my injured arm.

Excellent Value - Dana D. Murphy on Nov 8, 2009

I was a little put off by the price, but very tired of buying cheap, drugstore pads that burned out with constant use. Once I plugged this in, however, the intense heat reminded me of why I needed a good one in the first place. The pain relief is amazing. It takes a few tries to get the hang of the control (I just hold it in place with the back of my knee) but it's a small trade off for the almost instant relief. I'd have given it 5 stars, but like all the others, it's hard to use on my neck.

Feel It - Hot, Hot, Hot! - K. Occhiuti on Oct 19, 2009

Great product! I own two, one for home and one for my massage practice and have also purchased a few for gifts. You cannot beat the heat that comes from this and the moist heat is far more friendly to the body. You really have to try it to feel the difference beteween this and a regular heating pad. The heat feels like it is soaking into your body rather than sitting on the surface. I like the manual switch for my massage practice so my client is not interrupted by the beeps of the automatic switch, I use a pony tali holder wrpped around the switch to keep it in the on position. I also like the weight and feel of this product better than the automatic switch one, don't be fooled I was sent the wrong product through my last order with Amazon.

FOR MOIST HEAT THERAPY CAN'T BE BEAT - GYPSY DIVA on Jan 6, 2009

Thermophore Arthritis Pad Moist Heating Pad 14" x 27" - Automatic Switch REACHES HIGH TEMP QUICKLY. GOOD FOR PLACING ON TOP OF THE BODY, NOT UNDER IT, AS IT BECOMES REALLY HOT AND EITHER BURNS OR SWEATS. I SUFFER TMJ AND LAY WITH SIDE OF FACE ON THE PAD FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND MY HAIR WAS SOAKING WET. MY PAIN WAS GREATLY RELIEVED. THIS IS NOT A REGULAR HEATING PAD, DEFINITELY PRODUCES MOISTURE AND IS VERY EFFECTIVE AT PROVIDING RELIEF WHEN MOIST HEAT THERAPY IS PRESCRIBED.

Couldn't Live Without It. - Beverly Kennedy on Oct 27, 2008

I have been using Thermophore pads for 2 decades. The original style only heated while you depressed the button. Then, when you drifted off to sleep, it would go off. That was great.
However, the newer Arthritis style Thermophone has been even better. It stays on for about 20 minutes, then automatically shuts off. I use both the neck model and this longer model. The neck one is used around my neck for cervical pain. This longer style is used around my low back and also on my topmost thigh and knee as I sleep on my side.
This one was a replacement for my last one that quit working after about 2 years. I took the control to the old one apart and discovered the wires had pulled loose. So, I recommend not tugging on the cord where it goes into the control. I may have caused it to jerk loose holding it up by the cord and untwisting the cord. I am more careful now.

I still recommend this very highly.

Good Basic Heating Pad - Allen R. Bromberger on Apr 12, 2008

This is the second pad I've owned in 20 years. Thermaphore pads just go forever. This is basic model; you press the trigger and it gets hot. It's comfortable and the manual safety switch prevents the pad from heating if you fall asleep. Not much in the way of heating controls, and no organic/microwave features. If you want those, this is not the right pad for you. My wife has back problems and this is the only pad she likes.

Good Product Made Better - frag "Trouble" on Jan 14, 2012

I have previously owned an older model with simple squeeze trigger operation. This new model is easier to use, fits my needs better.I would recommend this to anyone in need of a deep-heating pad.

1 Year Later.... - Ed on Jan 12, 2012

....and after much usage this things works like the first day purchased. Large pad size lets it work on a large area of your back, legs and any large area you need to treat. It does get hot so some layering may be in order. Highly recommend.

Good Value - A. Newman on Jan 11, 2012

It's more expensive than other pads, true. Best features; no vinyl, made in USA, simple switch to use-squeeze the switch, it's on, let go, it's off. The pad heats up FAST too. Best heating pad we've ever had.
