Editorial Reviews
Increases circulation to help eliminate lactic acid build-up. Aids recovery. Reduces muscle soreness.

Prior to a run, I massage my legs for about 10 minutes to roll out the kinks. This is a fantastic tool to get the legs nice and warmed up before a workout. When I started running, I would feel shin splints coming on so I'd gently use the stick to massage my shins (additional icing, too). For my big calves, my husband would work through the muscle while focusing on the little bumps and knots. Before the stick, I was a long time sufferer of tight calves that no amount of stretching could alleviate. The Stick is a great recovery and warm up tool that leaves me fresh for my next workout.
So here is my initial reaction to The Stick:
Quality: very simple design, all plastic, but feels very sturdy. Has a really nice solid feel to it with a little bit of weight.
Effectiveness: definitely as advertizes for my calves and thighs. It is much easier to use The Stick on my lower body than a foam roller or a tennis ball. As for upper body, i think its more practical to use a tennis ball and a wall, you get a deeper massage and can pin point a trigger point much better.
Overall a very solid product. I would definitely reccomend The Stick for anyone suffering from something similar to what i am going through, or for just about any active person who takes their recover seriously.
It works as well OR better than the foam roller. I can get to more specific pain areas with The Stick. I recently went hiking in Colorado and experienced some serious pain afterward. I can't begin to say enough about the difference The Stick made. We went on to hike 4 out of 7 days of our vacation, and while I had some pain, using The Stick made a huge difference.
I highly recommend it.
The Stick is extremely well constructed and its sturdiness actually surprised me; it is clearly built to last. I have been using a roller for a little over a year to loosen my muscles after runs and bike workouts. I actually don't have a foam roller but just use a PVC which has been coated in athletic tape. I think the Stick will replace that practice. It performs the same function in a device about half the size. While I haven't used the larger sizes, I can only imagine needing them if you plan to use it on your upper body. I focus on my legs and the travel size is more than sufficient for that, plus it fits in my gym bag or suitcase.
Get the Stick, it rocks.
You control the pressure, less work than getting on the floor with your foam roller.
I have the 17.5" stick and think it's the perfect size, however haven't tried the others.
I do have one caveat that someone else complained about - the smell. This is due to a design flaw. This is made of simple plastic and if you push harder/longer, the rubbing plastic rollers against the axle cause heat and the smell. I think I got around this by spraying some Pyroil Silicone Lubricant Spray - 10 oz. on the axle through the wheels and then wiping off the excess that dripped. DO NOT USE WD40 or other oil-based lubricant - I don't think these go well with most plastics (it might corrode it over time).
Overall I like this, though I think they are overpriced given their fairly cheap construction. Having said that, if it lasts me a couple of years, I'll consider it worth the money.
Otherwise, if you are on the road or just starting to feel a cramp *horrible feeling* - this might help a bit on the changeovers if you have a few mins to roll the area (calves)...it can be a real life-saver!
