Editorial Reviews
he Knobble II is the newly designed cousin of the all-wood classic favorite of therapists and self care enthusiasts. Still about the size of a standard doorknob, it is made of durable polymer. The base is held in the palm of the hand, and the smoothly rounded tip is used to apply pressure to trigger points in soft tissue. The Knobble II has the added benefit of a soft band of non-latex, Santoprene around the base that allows for friction techniques. Bodyworkers often use the Knobble II to save wear and tear on their hands when applying deep, prolonged pressure to knots or strands of contracted muscle. But the Knobble II is not meant to replace your healing hands, only to help them do more and last longer. Remember to position yourself in such a way that you use your weight, not just your strength, to apply pressure to the muscle. Avoid direct pressure against the spine and other bones.

Hits The Spot - sportz fan on Apr 29, 2010

What a handy little device. While there are lots of little massagers on the market, this one had a lot of cool features:

-just the right size (about as big as a doorknob)
-the tip is really smooth to decrease friction (some massagers can "catch")
-has this rubber stuff around the top where you grip it so it doesn't slip around
-looks prettier sitting around than other massagers :)

So who needs one? Just about anyone with sore muscles. The idea here is that sore and painful muscles have little irritable knots/spots in them, called trigger points, that cause pain. The cure? Rubbing them and working them out. While you could do this with your bare fingers, this can put a lot of stress on them over time and do damage. Also, using this device will enable you to massage longer- a definite plus! Useful for everyday sore muscles, or when trying to get rid of a chronic problem, consider this little tool- you won't regret it. Those with elbow tendiitis might also want to check out Treat Your Own Tennis Elbow. Happy massaging!

Use It Every Day!! - lizardo on Mar 15, 2009

I use this tool every day to work on my Trigger Points. It is easy to grip and saves my hands and fingers. It is one of my most valued possessions. Never use it on bare skin. Always have a layer of clothing or a towel between your skin and the tool. Use sensible pressure to avoid bruises. I found that the area around a Trigger Point which has never been worked may be more likely to bruise. After the trigger point has been relieved the bruising does not return. Just my personal experience.

Have Pressure Points? It's Great - Campbell Welsh "Camp on Nov 13, 2009

I was the type that actually wedged my TV remote in places on my back - trying to get relief to those pressure points. Now I can reach them easily. I also use the edge to roll on sore muscles to massage.
If you are the type that can't take pain on these areas, you wont like it. It is hard and really does the job at applying deep pressure to these points.

Moderately Helpful, But Could Be Better - Beth Cholette "docto on Dec 14, 2010

I have a lot of tension in my upper back, neck, and shoulders, most likely due to having a job which involves sitting all day as well as a long daily commute to and from work. I have found acupressure to be helpful, mostly in the form of working with yoga instructor Jill Miller's Yoga Tune Up therapy balls (available on her Yoga Tune Up web site). Although I find the balls to be highly effective, they require me to be lying on the floor to best target my tight areas. So, I purchased the Knobble as a more portable alternative, something that I could hopefully use to work out kinks during times when I am sitting in front of the computer.

The Knobble is made of plastic, and it fits well in the palm of the hand. The area that is designed to be held is covered with a rubber-like material to prevent slippage. This is a nice feature, although I would have preferred to have the ENTIRE Knobble covered by this non-slip rubber. A major problem I've found when using the Knobble is that the plastic is so smooth that it slides easily, making it very difficult to position in one place in order to target particular trigger points (which is the goal of acupressure treatment). In this sense, I'm not sure that the Knobble has any advantage over a simple tennis ball, which provides some grip due to friction. Furthermore, the shape of the Knobble, while unique, does not seem as useful in practice as a round ball--again, I've had much better success with my Yoga Tune Up therapy balls or even just a tennis ball.

In the end, I will keep using the Knobble, as I do find that it provides me with some relief. However, I also admit to being disappointed with this product, which I think could have been designed much better.

Very Good For Trigger Point Work - Sonya Tea "Sonya9411 on Jul 22, 2010

This product is a hand saver for trigger point work. This is a very small helpful tool, I have used it for self care as well in my job as a bodyworker for specific work-(great for deep foot work). I highly recommend The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook: Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief, Second Edition by Clair Davies, for those suffering from chronic undiagnosable pain in conjunction with the Knobble. Trigger points may not be the problem for you, but I have had clients that have tried everything else, and are worried they will be in pain forever, and for many of them this has been a godsend in terms of pain relief. The Knobble is a great tool- and portable and easy to use. I would recommend for self care having on hand 2 tennis balls and a racket ball, and the knobble. For those who want more the Thera Cane Massager or Body Back Buddy and travel size version of "The Stick" are helpful as well.

Fantastic Alternative To My Husband's Thumb! - Chris A. Sherman "sc on Apr 2, 2010

I really wanted to buy the more expensive metal tool that could have ice or heat in it but just couldn't justify the price. Boy, am I glad I bought the Knobble II instead! Even though it doesn't look like much, it really can get deep into those areas of your body that have knots and spasms. With just a light pressure, it really works them out. Before, I was practically numbing my husband's thumb having him do pressure point. His thumb would hurt and shake from having to push so hard. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who has spasms or knots they want out. It can be used by yourself, but having someone else do it gets a better angle.

OMG! - Stylist on Dec 16, 2010

This in the BEST item I have ever bought. I get knots is my shoulder and back. Before I would ask family to massage it out for me. They would all complaine that their fingers hurt because I need deep tissue. With this little Knobble II. They are just going for it, I am saying now not so hard! They now say we thought you wanted a deep tissue?(pay back) I do but The Knobble II will get right to the where you need it with just a little pressure. I have bought so many other products and paid for a lot of massages. Now I have the answer right here. You will love it get one today.ITS great!

Glad To Have It - Brenda on Oct 9, 2009

This is a nice complement to my collection of Miracle Balls, tennis balls, Theracane, etc. Gets places I can't address well with my other gear. I like the non skid rim around the large part of it. It is nice to hold sideways and work on my neck while laying on my back in bed.

I would give it 5 stars, except I think it could be made better if the tip end of it could be made of a material with a slight give to it, kind of like the rubber in a super ball kids toy.

An Excellent, Inexpensive Therapy Tool - Robert Moore on Mar 13, 2010

The doctor who gives me my monthly manipulations to reduce my shoulder and back pain had recommended that I get a Body Back Buddy for my shoulder. I noticed on the product page a link to the Knobble II and seeing its low cost and high ratings I thought it worth a try. I'm delighted that I gambled and got it. Although my main pain problem is in my shoulder, I have struggled in the past with plantar fascitiis. This tool is absolutely spectacular for that. One of the things that I am learning about pain management is that you can't have too many weapons to turn against it. I would never, ever recommend this as the only thing to use for the treatment of pain, but along with several others I definitely give this a thumbs up.

Love It - Reg on Dec 13, 2010

This is great for trigger point therapy. I often use it on my neck and front of my shoulder at work. Can also be used against the wall or by someone else massaging you. Buy one if you have any back or muscle issues.

Trigger Point Relief - Gayle Koehler on Dec 7, 2010

The Knobble II allows me to really bear down on tigger points in my muscles and affords quite a bit of relief after the initial pain passes.
Good idea for self therapy.

Excellent Product - geezelouise on Sep 3, 2010

I purchased this item out of desperation due to back pain. I use this item in conjunction with the knowledge I have learned from the Trigger Point Workbook......both worth their weight in gold...even purchased one for a friend in pain..just remember use a light touch in the beginning and only on covered skin.

Knobbler II Review - Scott Law "trunuff" on Feb 9, 2010

Makes it very easy to massage someone's upper back, lower back, legs and feels great if you put it on the floor and step down on it to massage the arch of your foot.

Gets Into Shoulder Blade Area - RJ on May 31, 2010

I bought this item to replace my "shiatsu hoop" I've had for about 15 years. I needed something to get into my shoulder blade area. It works great. I lay on it in bed n rotate my arms to get into different areas. I also use it while in a chair (you need to ensure your chair can handle it). I dont just use the point of it, I use the edge to get inside certain areas. Its a sturdy product. I've had it for about a year and no problems (other than losing it lol). Its well worth the price.

Versatile, Portable, Multi-use Knobble - Robin Eclectica on Dec 26, 2009

For many years I've been using and recommending to my patients, the virtues of the precursor Knobble (made of wood then). I personally keep one in my car for use on hamstrings (weight of my leg does the "work"), low back, upper back; and other uses at home, carried in my backpack, etc. for instant and easy use to forestall or eliminate Trigger Points almost anywhere. It is easy - and now even easier with the coating around the rim - to use cupped in my hand (or someone else's), and can now be attached to a doorknob or other hanging spot where I can press against any of the rounded portions to relieve Tr Pts with very little effort. One of the best designed and most versatile tools for self-help. Thank you, Knobble people and Positive Pressure people for continuing to supply this beautifully designed tool for both body workers and the general public.

The Knobble II-The Finger Saver - Kevin K. Nickel "K. on Aug 20, 2009

This is a great product for massaging and applying pressure to deep tissue. My wife has disc problems and needs frequent back and neck massages to relieve pain and soreness. There are certain spots that she needs hard pressure applied and it used to be hard on my thumbs and fingers. With the Knobble II, I can apply all the pressure she needs without much effort and no more sore fingers. I highly recommend this product.

Clever And Effective Device - Micheleebee "Redgyps on Sep 30, 2011

This is a great device to use if massage therapy is unavailable. I suffer from stress-related neck and back tension. In the past, I resorted to laying on a tennis ball or yoga massage therapy balls to work out the kinks. What I find very helpful in this tool is that it has a 'knuckle' as well as a flat surface. The knuckle is helpful in finding and working out those painful trigger points. If you hold the Knobble at an angle with the rubber friction band toward you, it can be useful in working the fascia of muscle. I've used this on my trapezius and posterior neck muscles which affect the neck and shoulders, as well as the jaw. I used the flatter dome side on my face, along my forehead which has been very effective in easing tension and sinus pressure. The Knobble is small enough to reach into the fascial layers which, if not attended to, will "enlist" other muscles to compensate, snowballing into worsening symptoms. I've experienced relief in even hard to reach muscles, such as the piri-formis (from the back of the femur into the buttocks) as well as the ilia-psoas (from the uppermost part of the thigh toward the spine). As this fits neatly into the palm of the hand, with rotating motion, have experienced no fatigue. It doesn't cost a fortune, it's easily transportable and washable. Tennis balls still work, but for delicate muscles in the face or the hands, say, this device works wonders!

The Right Tool For The Job - A. F. Perry "Finishi on Aug 22, 2011

I have a lot of "pokers"...some on theracane, some that look like critters with legs. This one I can take to bed with me and release trigger points before I get up...fits nicely in the hand and does the job well.

Your Sciatica Will Thank You - Radar626 on May 5, 2011

If you have ever tried manual trigger point therapy to help relieve sciatica, you know how hard it is on your wrist and fingers to keep up the pressure. Even then it's hard to exert enough pressure to feel any relief. Professional massage therapists can help hit trigger points, but it's too expensive to go all the time. Here's where the Knobble II comes in. This wonderful, simple tool allows you to save your hands and wrists while allowing you to push as hard as you are able. The point is rounded and the large side is easy to grip with the rubberized area. I use it to reach the piriformis muscle that causes a lot of pain. The sciatic nerve is compressed or otherwise irritated by the piriformis muscle causing pain, tingling and numbness in the buttocks and along the path of the sciatic nerve descending down the lower thigh and into the leg. Even professional therapists have a hard time reaching this little muscle, often using their elbows or thumbs to try and get it to "release" but can't keep up the effort required for longer periods of time. I'm able to lie down on the Knobble in the perfect spot on my glutes to reach the piriformis and stay that way until I get relief. I'd never get that with manual therapy on my own. I wish I'd known about this wonderful little thing sooner. The relief from muscle spasms, sciatica and pain is worth many times the price.

A Perfect Trigger Point Therapy Tool - karlotta "karlotta7" on Feb 24, 2011

I bought this tool when I bought the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies and Simons. The money I invested in these two products has saved me a tremendous amount by allowing me to do my trigger point therapy myself. The Knobble II is a very easy tool to use, and saves the hands from fatigue when pressing on trigger points. It's self-explanatory - hold it like a doorknob. I can even see people with severe joint pain using this tool for their trigger point therapy. The trigger point book tells me where the trigger points for pain are (the point where you press to get rid of the pain is not always the same as the location of the pain - it's called "referred pain") and the Knobble II allows me to tend to those points where I can normally reach. A trigger point therapy cane reaches the points around the back. When I was hiring a trigger point therapist, I had to schedule the appointment and pay for it. Now, when I wake up, if I'm feeling achey, I check the biggest trigger point offenders and get the bad ones done in a few minutes, even before I get up that morning. As the day goes along, if a spot is bothering me, I just pick up the knob and work on it for a minute and it's gone. I do a full trigger point therapy set once per week. You get to know your bad spots very quickly when you read the book, and the Knobble is just great - before I had it, just doing the few points I knew at that time was hard on my hands. This removes the need to physically press hard. I can say without reservation that it's easily the best money I've ever spent.

Great Idea - Sylvie D.B. on Oct 31, 2010

The knobble works really well on sore back knots. Yes, keep away from spine, and apply light pressure to sore spots. Otherwise use the large flat side for massage. Great on hands for the person using that may have sensitivity, arthritis, etc.

Get This If You Have Aches And Pains - Jane M. Sattler "jms on Sep 21, 2010

I am using this often and have now decided it will travel with me. It is small but durable and once you learn where your trigger points are, it is very easy to use and gives great relief. I highly recommend it!

Great Little Tool! - ih8retail "retailsux on Aug 28, 2008

Fits comfortably in hands. Great for getting kinks outta back and neck. Also works great for pressure points.

Love It! - Nancy on May 26, 2011

The Knobble has helped relieve some of the pain associated with chronic migraines, neck and shoulder pain. I am able to apply consistent, hard pressure to the trigger points without cramping or hurting my fingers. Would definitely recommend.

Not Bad, Not Great - B. Shapiro "Big Jame on May 20, 2011

I've been doing heavy trigger point work for two years now. This guy just doesn't get deep enough for me Most effective- a golf ball or lacrosse ball between my body & the floor or wall. Though many may find this too aggressive.

Best Gadget I Ever Bought For Under $10 - karen on May 8, 2011

My 83 yr. old father lives with chronic neck pain and gets massage therapy 3 x week to get through physical pain in his life. He has had multiple surgeries and has been followed through a pain clinic for years. One therapist is a trigger point therapist and gives him the most relief, albeit temporary. This particular therapist is not covered by Medicare so he must pay out of pocket. I bought this for him and he now uses it religiously throughout the day and can give himself some relief when the pain gets real bad. He is now getting therapy just 1 x week with the trigger point therapist and has dropped the therapists covered by medicare. Best thing I've ever bought for less than $10. I'm going to get him more of them so he can have it nearby in various rooms in the house. It hasn't cured him but any bit of relief helps. Don't push too hard with it, as you can bruise yourself.

My Best Purchase Of The Year! - GymDiva on Jan 21, 2011

I've been in physical therapy for over 2 years for a rhomboid injury that's left me with a snapping scapula and a knot that is usually impossible to pin b/c it will move under my shoulder blade. This little guy has been an absolute lifesaver for both me and my boyfriend who has several knots of his own. I'm not going to say I'm completely pain-free, but this is miles from when I was rolling around on the floor with a lax ball! For the money, it's definitely paid for itself. However, it's best used with a partner, as I've had difficulty pinning knots on my own with it due to the domed base.

Great Pocket Massager - Julie A. Bowman "Lad on Oct 30, 2010

Great little pocket sized massage tool. It fits easily in the palm of the hand. My fingers get sore from working on all my co-workers (and myself) and this makes it a lot easier! My co-workers love it.

Excellent Tool For Point Work - EquestrianGal on Oct 4, 2010

I purchased this and another massage tool (the indexknobber) to help me work on my horse. I do some sports massage, acupressure and trigger point with him, but because I have tendinitis and arthritis in my hands and wrists, I'm not able to use my bare hands to work with him very well. As far as massage tools go that are made for horses, it's very slim pickings. There is a "Y" shaped tool made specifically for horses, but I found that it placed my wrist at a bad angle when working on his haunches, shoulders, and neck especially, and I wasn't terribly pleased with using it on his back.

I have really enjoyed working with this tool on my horse. It's not exactly as versatile as the Indexknobber, but this has been perfect for working on pressure points and knots. The knob is not too big for hitting small points, and not too short. The handle fits comfortable into the hand and has not yet given my wrists trouble. I also like that it is helpful with skin rolls on my horse. I have a hard time doing those with my fingers alone, and if I use this against the fingers of my other hand, it works wonderfully. I do have to admit that I use the Indexknobber more, but that's mostly because I'm working on a horse and need the Indexknobber's versatility more. That said, I do think this would be excellent for working on your own pressure points and knots, so long as they are where you can reach.

I've owned the product for perhaps a month now. I have been using it fairly often sometimes even twice a day--before and after my ride--and it is holding up just fine. It still looks like new, in fact, and I'm keeping it in a tack truck so it's not exactly getting kind treatment all of the time. I especially like that it is easy to clean--a must considering I'm working with my horse, and no matter how much I brush him, there's still enough dirt and dust and loose hair to get on the tool.

All in all, I'm very pleased with it. Most importantly, my horse is happy, too!

Save Your Thumbs! - mada09 "mada09" on Aug 12, 2010

This works great for rubbing out knots in the back and hips. The grippy part and shape make it easy to hold and prevent hand/thumb fatigue.

Knobble Provides Some Relief For Tennis/golfers Elbow - Buckeye Doug "Buckey on Sep 3, 2009

I have tennis (outside) and golfer (inside) elbow tendonitis. The Knobble used a 2 -3 times a day provides some relief and releases some of the tension in my elbow. Just find where the pain is and gradually work the knobble in that area.

Too Hard To Work Well - L. Pearson on Sep 23, 2008

Easy to bruise with this because it's so hard, but it does work if careful with it. It would be better if softer, (like rubber), not hard plastic.

First - Heather on Dec 1, 2010

The Knobble II fits perfectly in the palm of my hand without slipping. It works well with either oil or lotion.

Great, Simple Massage Tool - H. North on Mar 10, 2010

it's a pretty simple and straightforward little device... it's easy to grip and position and makes more intensive bodywork less stressful on your hands and fingers. for how inexpensive it is, i would recommend it to anyone who is interested in massage.

Works But Causes Bruising! - Reader2008 on Feb 21, 2010

I don't have sensitive body skin at all, but since using this thing on my "trigger points" I have been bruised and sore. To keep bruising at bay, I have to use the circular part with the rubber on it. The main problem with this thing is that it is too hard for you to apply the pressure needed to get rid of a trigger point.

Small And Effective - Quoad Toad on Dec 30, 2009

When I first opened the box with the Knobble in it, I was surprised by how small it was and couldn't imagine it would actually help. I was wrong. This small item fits nicely in my palm. The large hand held base with a small tip allows you to apply a large amount of pressure on a small spot without much effort. The first time I tried it, I actually hurt my shoulder. The Knobble truly requires very little pressure to work and is great for relieving minor aches.

Great Product! - wensu7 on Dec 9, 2009

This little knobble does the trick when trying to work a really painful knot out. You obviously need someone to help, but it only takes a VERY LITTLE amount of pressure. You just find the knot or pressure point and press for a few minutes. I have bought one for my Mom and sister-in-law. I would also recommend purchasing the "Trigger Point Therapy Workbook" by Clair Davies. This is a great combo for people who suffer from headache, backaches, neck problems, or even carple-tunnel.

Useful Little Massage Tool - Specialized! - Lindy Cheng "Lindy" on Jul 14, 2009

Great grip, good to reach into those hard to reach little spots that are tough on your fingers. With a little practice, you can give those sore spots a good rub. It is tougher to use this on other people without feedback from your fingertips.

I got mine in blue shiny plastic and my little niece thought it was a great toy. Couldn't let go of it.

Guess what.

I don't have it anymore.

But my niece gets to rub her sore feet with a great gizmo.

Perfect Tool To Really Massage That Pressure Point - MrNCSU44 on Jan 22, 2012

My physical therapist uses a Knobble to rub various pressure points as needed. I thought it would be nice to have a Knobble at home too so we ordered one. It arrived timely and has worked great.

For The Wife Who Doesn't Use Enough Pressure! - Matt Dobson on Jan 10, 2012

I bought this for our massages. My wife never uses enough pressure for the hard knot areas. This works perfect, most times she can exert TOO MUCH pressure now!

We found that it works better over a shirt, with bare skin it doesn't "glide" as well, not into lotions or oils after a shower!

Works Great! - Ryissa on Jan 8, 2012

I bought this along with the Jacknobber II just to see what they would be like. I was in an auto accident so my muscles haven't been the same, and my hands alone just weren't doing the trick.

I said this in my Jacknobber review, but for me personally nothing will beat a massage therapist. However for at-home use this is fantastic. It's got a great grip to it and I can apply some good solid pressure to the points needed. More importantly, it really does seem to work and provide relief!

With the Jacknobber I was using it more for my hips and thighs, but with the Knobble I'm using it a lot for the back of my head, neck, shoulders, and even around my pec minor muscles (chest muscles) since those all get pretty bad sometimes. Before this my hands would just wimp out after a short while, but now I can actually provide the pressure I need without having to constantly stop for breaks.

I find I do use the Knobble more, but only because the areas I use it in tend to flare up more often. I've actually relieved some bad tension headaches with this so I am very happy to have bought it! I really think this and the Jacknobber make a great pair for me. If one doesn't quite get the spot, the other one will!

Awesome! - Steve Harthun on Jan 3, 2012

Great product! takes the stress from your hands and fingers for those pesky trigger points! Great addition for trigger point therapy at home.

Improve Your Husbands Massage Stamina!! - RunLolaRun on Jan 3, 2012

Bought this to have in my labor/delivery hospital bag but I have ended up using it almost nightly already. When I ask my husband to massage my back, his hands wimp out after only a few minutes because I like a hard pressure. His thumbs would be too sore before I got any relief. Then I got this thing. He can hold onto it easily and press into my back much harder. This has greatly improved his massage stamina. I haven't used it in labor yet but this is for sure going in the bag when the time comes.

Convenient Little Tool - Chandra on Dec 31, 2011

This came included with in a package of a Trigger Point Therapy Workbook and a Thera Cane Massager. I haven't put it to much use because I never made time to rub the knots out since most of the time they are located on my back. It's kind of hard to reach that area unless you put someone else to work. It has been a convenient tool to use for the few times I have used it. I have larger hands for a woman and the round side fits well in my palm. The only thing I would bring to the manufacturer / companies attention if they read this review is that it probably would be more useful with a guide of how to use it as well as the frequent uses. I'm sure a massage therapist may know, but for the at home user, some direction is needed. Overall it's sturdy and well made. My son plays with it and it's held up well in the hands of a curious child.

Great - Issac Hammerstein & on Dec 17, 2011

nice for working pressure point's and getting/giving a very deep and relaxing massage. makes for a great gift or just for having around the house

Highly Recommended. - Teresa Myers on Dec 13, 2011

This product is perfect for deactivating trigger points and is a must have for massage therapists. I highly recommend purchasing this product.

Great Massager And Easy On The Hands! - Dreamcatcher710 on Dec 13, 2011

This little product is terrific! It gets right into knotted spots on my husband's neck and shoulders, which I couldn't do well before because my hands would get too sore. The Knobbie has a soft rubber circle that is comfortable to hold, and you can really hit those pressure spots to release the tension. Repetitive kneading of problem areas is easy because my hands don't get tired.

The Knobbie is light and portable, and it would fit easily into a desk drawer at the office. I find it easy to reach tension spots in my neck and get great relief.

Especially since it's just a few bucks, I would definitely recommend this to anyone. It is very durable and works great.

Paulmart - Paul on Dec 10, 2011

it is better than i expected, it was cheap and i figured it was worth a try but i am amazed how much i really use it. it works very well and does not hurt. i even use it when i am stuck in traffic. get one!

Knoble II - linyeng on Dec 9, 2011

It is nice to use in places you have pain, as back, button, neck and so on, but I prefer the Knoble I (made by wood)

Useful Implement For Myofascial Pain - Soulster on Dec 5, 2011

This implement is a useful tool in my arsenal of implements I use for myofascial pain. I can imagine this might work well for those with arthritic hands. Though the grip is simple, you can't apply as much pressure as the jack knobber.
