The way the Green Superfeet works is by providing support for someone with a HIGH arch. During the run, a high arch collapses and the green superfeet will actually help hold up the arch during the collapse. If you have LOW arches, do NOT buy this - use the blue superfeet. If you have low arches, this can actually cause plantar fasciitis by causing tension in the plantar facscia. I've seen many reviews saying it's great for low arches, so I wanted to give a heads up.
Now, the one real cool thing about the Superfeet is that they have the hard plastic bottom. This, contrary to what seems logical, is the most healthy shock absorption for your feet. Compare it to running on sand versus running on cement. if you run on sand, your joints work a lot harder, and your body is not able to absorb the shock as well, causing pain. If you run on cement, your subtalar joint won't splay outwards as much, causing the fatty tissue under your foot to take more of the shock. The Superfeet encourages this with a deep heel cup, so it supports your heel, forcing the fatty tissue to cup your heel, creating the best shock absorption ever.
My personal opinion on this? I have it in all my shoes! I own about ten pairs of green Superfeet - they last forever, and the toe is perfectly flexible for a great toe-off during running. There is also a small layer of dense foam between the plastic and where your foot sits, allowing your foot to make it's own "custom mold" into the insole.
I found they have way too much foam under the arch for my feet and the contour seemed odd. I'd say my feet have medium arches. I immediately noticed that it felt like there was a lump where the arch support is. This lump wasn't at the center of my foot's arch, but a little farther back between the heel and arch. I found this very annoying and think it would eventually cause pain from the pressure point.
I should have just returned them but attempted to trim away some foam to improve the contour to my feet. This didn't work too well. It's nearly impossible to do this Superfeet insoles because the area I wanted to trim was above the hard plastic bottom shell which is glued very well to the foam.
I would definitely recommend finding a local store that carries Superfeet and other brands of insoles and trying them on. If this isn't an option, I'd recommend starting with one of the other Superfeet colors instead of green even if you have high arches.
I don't leave home without them!
A side note - I've found that the blue Superfeet Superfeet Blue Premium Moderate Support Insoles work just as well as these, and that the black ones Superfeet Premium Insoles for Flat and Sensitive Feet are okay but not as supportive. The black ones are very thin and designed to be used in dress shoes, and they are definitely better than nothing.
The insoles felt like golf balls under my arches, but I walked several miles in them and the sensation of hardness gradually subsided. I noticed almost immediate relief of pain under my heel. I made three trips to a physical therapist for treatment, but cancelled my last scheduled appointment. I would attribute my recovery chiefly to the Superfeet insoles. I do spend a lot of time massaging my feet with a roller, a spiky ball and a golf ball. I also do some stretches for the gastrocnemius. I ordered two more pair of Superfeet insoles, so I rate these highly and recommend trying them before buying expensive orthotics. I am back up to my six miles per day walking without heel pain.
I'm a flat footed person, so arch support was my main priority. A sales rep at Sports Basement turned me to these gems. These insoles made a difference instantly, and after a few days, the pain completely went away.
Best product ever for flat footed people, and I wouldn't wear another pair of shoes without these.
The berry color is advertised as being for high arches, but don't believe it. I am having a recurrence of the PF and a lot of backpain because I switched to the Berry color.
Today I am ordering another pair of GREEN Superfeet insoles for my high arches and PF!
Go green!!!
The only downside to them is that once your foot adjusts, wearing shoes without these insoles just doesn't feel right and actually hurts me after a long day. I need to get a pair of Superfeet that are made for dress shoes. That is really the only negative about this product. I now recommend these to everyone. I bought my wife a pair of the pink ones for her work shoes since she is on her feet all day, and she now recommends them to everyone as well.
They are expensive when you compare them Dr Scholls and other cheap stuff that doesn't work, but your feet are worth it.
I noticed one thing i don't get. I bought the Men's 7 1/2 - 9 and with my size 7.5 shoes they fit perfect without any cutting. I was expecting that they would fit perfect in a size 9 and that i need to cut them down. confusing but great for me because i don't like to cut those things.
i also have a different model for my ski boots.
