Editorial Reviews
LOOK NO FURTHER! You've found the BEST sleep mask on the market. A good night's sleep is finally GUARANTIED! OVER 50,000 SOLD with a more than 99.99% customer approval rating! CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED! The Revolutionary Product: After extensive research, the inventor of SLEEP MASTER(an insomnia sufferer) couldn't find a sleep mask that combined the conditions necessary for deep sleep: light elimination and sound reduction. Traditional sleep masks didn't fit or last. They all had thin elastic straps that shift uncomfortably during sleep, fray apart quickly or simply snap off after only a few uses, never mind the disastrous results from washing them! Thus was born SLEEP MASTER utilizing a soft, cool satin fabric, that is comfortable, LIGHT WEIGHT AND BREATHABLE, FLEXIBLE, DURABLE, wide and easily connected in the back by Velcro. The ear area is padded for sound muffling. It stretches or constricts for the fit you desire. SLEEP MASTERis a simple, all-in-one, one-size-fits-all product, which ELIMINATES LIGHT and REDUCES SOUND, giving you a deep, refreshing sleep by shutting out the world in an immediate, intimate way. ~~Normal use MUFFLES SOUND significantly, providing a sense of separation from ambient activity and noise, but not complete isolation. For total sound elimination, you may choose to insert the top quality ear plugs (provided with the mask) before placing SLEEP MASTER around your head, which will block out sound completely & hold the ear plugs securely in place. CPAP users report that SLEEP MASTER fits comfortably when used with a CPAP! Superior quality materials and construction, along with washability, make SLEEP MASTER a far superior value than other masks: It is much more hygienic & lasts many times longer than other masks on the market. MONEY-BACK GUARANTY! If for any reason you are not satisfied with SLEEP MASTERreturn it within 30 days, undamaged, for a full refund (less S&H).

P.S. My husband, who worked night shift for many years and who was skeptical that any sleep mask could be as good as I claimed, tried my mask yesterday. That convinced him that I was in no way exaggerating. Hurrah! I have ordered another Sleep Master and look forward to receiving it so we both can get the rest we need. Thank you!
THIS MASK is designed the way ALL MASKS should be -- it covers a very wide area and protects completely from light leaks. It is also incredibly soft and because it wraps completely around the head, it doesn't shift around or feel uncomfortable. It's broad enough around the sides to even cover the ears to some degree, which helps with noise protection.
THEY SHOULD ALL BE DESIGNED THIS WAY. I wish I had found this mask 20 years ago!!
(1) the eye sockets are not raised, so there is a pressure on your eyeballs, which after a while becomes uncomfortable, not to mention interfering with REM.
(2) The silky material does not breathe at all, thus you wake up in the middle of the night with a hot, sticky area on your face where the mask is fitted.
(3) The length of velcro was not able to fit the circumference of my head very well. In fact, I had to remedy that myself by actually sewing an extra length of velcro to one of the bands.
In sum, this is an overpriced, very disappointing product of low design quality. There are so many great eye masks at a lower price out there! I was expecting to receive the Mercedes of all eye gear for sleep for the $$$ I paid but instead, I received a Yugo.
1. It's a lot larger than the average sleep mask. So there's a lot more room for casual movement without sudden flashes of light. I doubt any mask will keep all light out under every condition unless you are gluing it to you, especially for people who have big noses or a facial arrangement that puts the bridge of nose far out from from far-sides of eyes. But this does much, much better than both my others. Also there's a lot of extra strap room for me, but I just saw a review where a guy griped he had to sew on extra velcro. Boy he must have a head the size of a pumpkin! Some people do I guess. I have a fairly small head and it is quite a bit longer than the other 2 sleep masks I had, so I think it is well proportioned for this kind of product.
2. It's true the back-strap is nicely padded and large. If you wear it low (more toward base of skull) it's not a bulk problem but probably at the straight back of head, for people with very firm pillows, sleeping on their back, it certainly could be. For me, my hair was always getting stuck in the velcro of my other sleep masks which drives me nuts. This one the velcro is only 1/3 the width of the back of the mask so it keeps my hair out much better. Plus, you get it tightened 'just right' and you can pull it on and off and you don't have to use the velcro anymore. I like the padded wrap-around personally.
3. It's very soft. But really, most eye masks are soft. Like the other two I've had, there is a bit of adjustment period needed, because make it too loose and anything will turn/slip if you move enough (this far less than the others), but too tight and you wake up with your eyes gritty-red and blurry. This seems more forgiving than the others though.
4. This thing with the noise-blocking is so hilarious. Come on, this is just cloth with slight padding. It does wrap around your ears. This is mostly useful for helping keep earplugs IN. (Note that it comes with earplugs but anybody who really REALLY needs quiet should buy those individually for best quality.) Does it block sound? Ah, about as much as pulling a blanket over your head would block sound, which is to say, maybe some degree of distant ambient noise that doesn't matter much anyway, but not really at all for any acute or loud sounds. Wrapping around the ears is far more comfortable than the strappy-sort of eye masks I've had before that are chafing, irritating, move too much, and bug my ears, so I love that it covers my ears, but that has nothing to do with sound for me... if you need quiet don't depend on this for it. It's for eyes. Deal with the ears in some other way. I didn't count that as a selling point or I'd have made this 4 stars. I think it's just a side-effect of the design they found a positive marketing road for.
5. Many reviews mentioned color-bleeding but apparently they fixed that some time ago. Mine doesn't bleed color on my white cases. Another reviewer said his kept fraying excessively and immediately. I wonder what on earth could be on them or the pillow or head chemically or otherwise to cause this? since it happened to more than one mask with him -- I can only say that my mask is not so far fraying in any way. Another reviewer said if you have a big head the excess velcro sticking out 'sticks to the pillow.' I wonder if he has some old design, because on mine, the part that is exposed is the soft cotton side of the velcro, not the 'hooks' part.
6. As it is considered healthier to sleep in a cool room rather than a warm room and I don't live in a hot climate and have climate control, I haven't had it be 'hot' on me. If I were having hot flashes like one reviewer, well yes, then it would be hot, but come on, anything would be hot under those conditions, the mask is very nice but it cannot trump menopause. If you live in a really high humid climate and don't have climate control, then I would think a padded eyemask might not be the answer and maybe some kind of soft weave fabric against solid black plastic outside would be better for those situations.
7. Is it worth the money? Well it's worth it to me but that amount doesn't break me or anything. My buddy says he made his own eyemask out of an old t-shirt and it worked great, maybe the truly poor should try that. Sleeping well is worth a lot to me and so far this thing is really cool. I had given up on eyemasks for a variety of reasons until I was morosely shopping for yet another and found this one with all the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did, and I would recommend it to others.
I don't keep my eyes closed all night, so I sometimes woke with very dry, uncomfortable eyes when wearing this mask. It felt as if they were in contact with the mask.
This mask also lets a little light in around the nose. Most of them do on me. The sound muffling feature (something sewn into the area over the ears) does not make much difference and makes the mask hotter to wear. The slippery fabric seems to make the mask slide around more than the others I have tried. I once woke to find it on the floor by the bed.
I have to say, it was comfortable to sleep on my back, and the mask is very large so it covers a lot of my face. It would might be good for someone with a larger face and no mold allergies.
The problems I've faced are:
1) The rough side of the velcro that holds the mask closed faces your pillow, so if you do not have every last part of the velcro covered it will stick to your pillowcase if you lay on your back. When you go to move it "rips" off the pillowcase it has become stuck to. This noise will probably wake you up; if it doesn't the fact that the mask, which has become stuck to your pillowcase, twists on your head as you roll over and no longer keeps the light out as the nose cutout now resides on your temple will wake you up. I would imagine that only those people with small heads can have the velcro completely covered, if your head is normal or on the larger size, you'll have a significant amount of velcro showing and not only be awakened, but ruin your pillowcase, as this sleep mask has done mine.
2) Because of its design, in order to keep the mask on the entire night as you sleep, you have to velcro it pretty tight to your head. I've had several masks that are like that and usually it's no big deal, but because of the poor design of this sleep mask, if I make it tight enough to not fall off or spin around my head it pushes against my eyes fairly hard and when I awake my vision is blurry for usually more than 30 minutes and my eyes hurt because of the pressure against them all night long.
3) The assertion that the mask muffles noise is simply ridiculous. Unless you strap the mask so tight to your head that your eyeballs are being shoved backwards into your brain, you will notice absolutely no sound reduction. Even when you have the mask as tight as it will go, it still does not reduce noise in the least. This is a false assertion and was one of the main reasons I purchased this sleep mask, only to be very disappointed.
4) Finally, the ridiculous assertion that this mask helps us "ladies" keep a lovely hairstyle as we sleep, is laughable. The direct quote from their website is this,
"And, for you ladies, we've all heard the saying 'Nothing looks better on a woman than a good night's sleep.' Sleep Master actually keeps your hairstyle in place during sleep! Wake up, take off Sleep Master, and you are ready to go...No bedhead!"
Sleep Master's assertion only holds true if flat on top, with a band of squished hair across the middle of your head, then flat at the bottom is a hairstyle which you covet. This sleep mask hardly helps you maintain your out-of-the-stylist's-chair hair style while you doze, like it asserts.
Please give a great deal of thought before wasting your money on this sleep mask. My suggestion would be to stay with a more tried-and-true model, for this one is a complete fallacy from start to finish.
One thing that makes it better, (and different) is that it covers your ears as well as your eyes. (Yes, You CAN hear the alarm go off!) If you wear earplugs with it, it's almost completely sound proof. It's also the most comfortable mask I've tried. And, you can wash it in the washing machine.
I have 2, so I can always keep one clean.
I purchased this mask a few days ago and I couldn't return it because the S&H would have cost me as much as the price itself. It is very uncomfortable on the back of the head and unlike the claim "built-in sound muffling", it doesn't block noise AT ALL.
Pros:
* Keeps 99% of light out - even in a bright room
* Feels comfortable on the face; Haven't had any problems with hurting ears or mold allergy as other reviewers reported
* Does help muffle external sounds, but doesn't not completely eliminate ambiant noises
Cons:
* There is that nagging 1% of light that sneaks in from around the nose; unless you have your eyes open though I don't see how you'd know it was there - I only did for testing purposes.
* The mask is adjustable, but does need to be firm against the face to keep out the light - when tight it can press uncomfortably against the eyes; might be better if the area around the eyes were recessed somewhat to provide some clearance; it hasn't caused me to stop using it.
* This mask is huge! Prepare to be soundly laughed at by spouses, friends, etc. Even on a man's face it's quite large. Reminds me of my Floridian grandparents "old people shades". Still I don't mind sacrificing fashion for a good sleep - which is what I'm getting.
If you're on the fence I'd go for it. I haven't regretted my purchase at all.
Someone said the velcro bothered them, but unless you generally sleep on your back and have a hard pillow, I doubt you will have a problem. I have slept on my back many times with this, but have a nice down pillow and haven't really noticed the "velcro bump" in the back.
The only reason I give it a 4 is that it does bleed onto all my pillowcases...even after 2 months. I tried washing it right after getting it, but even after two months it often leaves blue to black stains on my pillowcases. I've only reused one of the sheet sets since I got it and I did notice that not all of the stain was removed in washing. Personally, I find the stains much worth the benefit though.
This mask is good because it doesn't have elastic bands that'll wear out over time. It doesn't allow any light in at all, so daylight sleeping is not a problem.
- There are plastic panels sewn inside the mask (where each eye socket is). I think these are what are supposed to actually blocks the light, but since the panels are much smaller than the mask itself, they slide around. Mine are closer to the ears than the eye socket and there is no way to slide them back into place without opening than ripping the mask open and readjusting, then sewing it back into place.. So the mask doesn't block much light after the first few times of wearing it.
- The mask lets in light from where it connects to the nose.
- To keep it on, I have to have the velcro so tight that when sleeping on my side, I end up with pain on the ear that is on the pillow.
- The silky material is stained from the moisture from my eyes (and even though I wash it, the stain does not go away).
That's it! On to search for a new mask.
I would buy from this seller over and over again. This sleep mask is so comfortable lightweight, does not leave marks on your face, and you get what you pay for. I promise you will not be dissappointed
Here's what I love about this mask:
- It is soft and comfortable; once you get used to it you don't even realize it's on.
- It doesn't mess up your hair too badly.
- I like that it covers my ears too, it makes it more comfortable and blocks out some noise.
- It has held up well.
- The velcro makes it possible to get it on nice and tight.
The only cons I can note are:
- After awhile the "stuffing" seems to shift/thin a bit away from the front of the mask.
- At times the fabric which is cut out on the nose will cut into my nose if I don't have it on "just right".
I am in the process of ordering 5 more of these so I can be sure to have one in my travel bag, one at the Lake, and one at the office. I also plan to give one to my Mom.
Don't hesitate to buy this!
