A Reliable Family Friend - David Bower on Mar 21, 2011

Jars of Mentholatum have been a regular part of our household for as long as I can remember. I keep a jar of Mentholatum in the drawer of my nightstand and will frequently use it when I get in bed.

I am, unfortunately, one of those people who regularly deal with nasal congestion. I've found that Mentholatum can help me get through the night and seems to calm my nasal passages when I'm sleeping.

I've found it works best for me to place it just below my nose and avoid rubbing it inside my nose; the odor of Mentholatum seems to help me breath better whether it's actually doing so or not.

Mentholatum seems to be affective in the treatment of small cuts and abrasions as well as treatment of dry skin patches.

I recommend this product for use around the home.

Unbelievably Hard To Find - J. Hansen on Aug 24, 2011

In a metropolitan area of 2 million people, you wouldn't think a product as basic as Mentholatum would be hard to find. But thank goodness you can buy it on Amazon! It came quickly and at a good price. I've used it since I was 8 years old and I NEED IT.

Mentholatum Is Old Time Favorite - H. Williams "HCWHunt on Apr 25, 2010

I have used Mentholatum since I was a child to keep my nasal passages open when I sleep. I have allergies and asthma and it has helped a lot. I also use it when I have a cold to sooth nostrils sensitive from sneezing and blowing my nose.

I have been having trouble finding it at drug stores and at our local Walmart and was happy to find it on Amazon, and much cheaper too! A bonus is that I am in my 50s and do not snore at night.

Glad To Find Item - Lova L. Dobler "Cene on Dec 17, 2009

This item is one we have been trying to find for months. Seems the drugstores don't carry it anymore. We have used this product for years for sinus problems and chapped lips. Wouldn't use any other product now that we have received this one.

I Use It For Mosquito Bites - S Benard "Futures Do on Jul 3, 2011

My grandfather was a doctor. He also had a cabin that we used to frequent in the Yellowstone area. Often, when we were there, people from the area would come and visit my grandfather for various ailments. Needless to say, since we were in the forest, mosquito bites were often the greatest complaint.
My grandfather always prescribed Metholatum, applied topically over the bite area, for mosquito bites. It reduced the swelling, eliminated the itchiness, and had an aromatic smell. I use it to this day for mosquito bites. In fact, that's why I came to this web page -- to order some more!

New Packaging Of Product - C. Bolte on Apr 25, 2011

I do not like the new packaging of this product's container. Difficult to reach through the narrow opening to the wider sides. Doesn't make sense why this was changed.

This Stuff Works... - Marshall Carter "Orn on Dec 19, 2010

I can remember that being sick with anything close to the cold or flu meant that I was going to have Mentholatum slathered all over my chest. I can remember it helping me feel better and general associate the scent with a slew of childhood memories. Now I've read that new studies show that products like Mentholatum and Vicks don't really help, that they just make you think that they help due to the scent and cooling sensation caused by the menthol (never mind the fact that a different study conducted by the Aussies came to a very differing conclusion; when citing studies those with an agenda only cite the ones they agree with). Honestly, I don't really care what the studies conclusions are, or even whether or not it actually works as far as "opening up nasal passages." All I know is that I recently bought a jar of Mentholatum-brand ointment while in the throes of one of the worst colds I've had in recent memory and it still seems to work for me. I put it on and I seem to breathe easier. Allowing my congested daughter to inhale the vapors seems to help her too (when before she would wake up every 10 minutes because of her very stuffy nose). It gives relief. What more can I ask for out of a cold-treatment product?

Can't Live Without This When You Have Runny Nose - vrensubsin on Mar 31, 2010

this is the only thing that helps me when I have a runny nose due to flu, cold or seasonal allergy. my skin under the nose would be so sore from constantly blowing my nose that I have to put mentholatum there to sooth it. nothing else would work. it also helped when my nose get all stuffed up.

This Stuff Is The Very Best!!! - JoMaMaO on Jan 7, 2010

No More Search For The Best Product - Dianna L. Saario "Di on Feb 1, 2009

My husband loves this product because it is not too strong, but just right. Everynight, it sure comes in handy. Wouldn't use anything else!!! The BEST!!! Keep producing it!!!!

Unsure Now. - Melody on May 17, 2010

I use Mentholatum Ointment for as long as I can remember. It was a very good product. But now I'm not so sure about it, because the package does not say they are made in U.S any more (The store I went still have some with 'made in U.S.' text printed, but not on those they called "new look" packages.) I wonder where they manufacture the products now? The company should be honest to their consumers by printing the manufacturing location. If they do not have that kind of confident, why expect we (consumers) to continue to trust their products?

And Oldie But Goodie - alm on Nov 29, 2011

I've been using Mentholatum for about 20 years. I use some under my nose at night to relieve nighttime congestion. It also works like Vicks on the chest for cough and congestion, can be used on lips for chapped lips (warning: it does provide a tingling sensation that some people hate) and on other chapped and super-dry skin.
The 3 oz. container is nice - still fits in the baggie for travel but is big enough to last a long time.

Generations Of Use - Kathryn S. on Mar 28, 2011

My entire family from my great grandmother to my niece and cousins have all used Mentholatum for chapped lips. I put it on every night before bed and keep the small jar at my desk for use during the day. The smell takes some getting used to but clears your sinus' and the menthol is soothing and cooling on chapped skin. I wouldn't be without it!!
