Not Worth It - Jamie on Apr 27, 2011

I was really excited to try this product as I just had a second ankle surgery and was getting tired of using plastic bags and tons of tape to cover my cast when I showered. I figured this would take all the time and effort out of taping up my leg every morning. It was definitely faster...I just slipped it over my cast and hopped in the shower. Seemed great, until I got out of the shower and my cast was completely saturated. Apparently the top of the cast protector was not tight enough around my leg and the water went right into it. I am not really sure how this works on people who have small legs, because I by no means have really small legs and yet, it still was not tight enough. Anyway, I had to switch back to using plastic bags and tape which is a total pain, but at least it keeps me 100% dry! Based on the reviews, nobody had the same problem as I did so I don't know what happened with me, but just be careful!! The cast protectors are definitely easier to use, but not worth it if it doesn't protect your cast.

Works Well - Kendrick "Rick" on Nov 23, 2010

This is a simple product; a plastic bag that slips over your cast or whatever you wish to protect on a leg and forms a good seal so you can take shower. You get two units, but after maybe eight uses my first one is still good. Good value.

Yes! - estarr3 "ldstarr" on Nov 8, 2010

If I were looking for a gift for someone with the recent addition of a cast to their life, it would be this! I am plus size, but with reasonable sized legs, but a size 11 foot. I was doubtful. It is so easy. I turn it partially down on itself, slip my foot in, and then pull the rest up over my foot. The plastic stretched out and then fits itself around the leg. The only thing I didn't care for was the sensation of the water through the plastic. Being able to feel the temperature of the water gave the sensation of the foot being wet, which just freaked me out a bit. So I solved that issue by wearing both covers at once.

Pleased... - T. Chapman on Jun 21, 2010

Given the price of these covers - they worked great for the value. I had foot surgery and had my leg in a cast for a month - I did not even have to use the second cast cover...one lasted all 4 weeks. It went on easy, sealed around my leg well enough (some days a couple drops of water may have gotten on my skin), but I wore the cover higher on my leg just in case that happened.

Works Great - Phil "Phil" on Nov 15, 2010

I bought this to cover a soft cast (really a wrap) for a leg injury. This product works great. It stretches easily over your leg so as not to rugb against it and then snaps tighly against the skin, keeping water out. It is reusable many, many times and does not lose its elasticity. Highly recommended.

These Work Great - Looneytunes on Aug 14, 2010

I had leg surgery and am in a cast for 6 weeks, so I gave these a try. Was not expecting them to work that well after stretching out the leg hole getting it over the cast, but they did seal excellent. I've used each of the 2 provided every other day for 3 weeks and NO LEAKS. Can't beat them - especially for the price.

Cast Protector Does Its Job - J. Brown "wine geek" on Jun 27, 2010

I bought this based on reviews I viewed on Amazon, and I am not disappointed! It is easy to put on/take off, and keeps the cast dry. It is not for submerging into the water, but it does seal quite well around the leg. I'll be using this product for 2 months, so will write updates if my opinion changes. So far, I am really glad I chose this one.

Works Well - Angela Campbell "ang on May 18, 2011

These look pretty cheap when you pull them out of the package (you get two), but they actually work really well. I used one of them twice so far and it hasn't ripped and it dries fairly fast. It's big enough to fit over a soft cast as well as a hard cast. I have a soft cast right now and will have a hard cast in a week. The top of the protector fits snugly over the top of the cast or at the top of your knee. I put it just above my knee because my legs are short and it seems to be easier to get water off of the outside of the protector when you put it up higher on your leg. After you get out of the shower (or bath), just dry the outside off and hang it up and it should dry quickly. I haven't submerged the protector-just used it in the shower so far. It doesn't seem like it would be up to the task of being submerged, so if you were going to use it for that maybe try to find another type of cast protector that has a tighter fit. Otherwise, for the price and what I used it for, I was very happy with my purchase.

Great Product! - writegirl on Mar 21, 2011

This is such a great, simple product. I was a nervous wreck with upcoming foot surgery, wondering how I'd ever keep my foot dry. The typical "tape your leg in a garbage bag" was time consuming, frustrating, and completely dependent on someone to help you do it. I happened to find this and it's been wonderful. Like others, I was very skeptical that it would work. The first time, I wore it under my surgical shoe because I was afraid the top opening would break or I'd slip in the shower. It worked fine that way, but my shoe was soaked. Next time I wore the shoe underneath the cover, and it still worked great. And yes, as others have said, it's amazing and frustrating that doctors don't know about this product, which gives the patient more freedom and confidence with their recovery.

Totally Cool Product - Emily D. Agunod on Feb 18, 2011

I'm surprised that after 5 foot surgeries, none of my doctors have recommended this product. I had to wrap my foot with a plastic bag and tape so I could take showers. But with this cast protector, I can just slip my leg in and find the most snug part of my leg and take a shower. I was skeptical but it held and my bandages were perfectly dry afterwards. It dries pretty well, too, so it's not going to slimy the next time I use it. Glad I found this product!

Great Deal! - Heather T. Stockard on Oct 23, 2011

It's hard to beat this product for the price. It's simple, it works, and it's a great value. I ordered a two-pack of these cast protectors before having foot surgery. The first protector was still in great shape after six weeks of use. I liked having the second one as a backup but I never needed it. I never got any dampness at all inside the cast protector, even when I directly sprayed the top of it with the shower spray.

Great Product And Great Price - P. M. Roig on Jul 25, 2011

I used one of these cast protectors every day for almost 7 weeks. I kept the other one in my bag in case it started to rain when I was out. I used waterproof tape to seal it when I bathed. Did the trick!

Curad Cast Cover - Rose M. Fialka on Jul 22, 2011

To all of you out there that have a leg cast for one reason or another, this is the product you need to take your shower! The design is amazingly simple but works like a charm. All you do is carefully pull it up to above you cast (not right at the very edge of it) and shower! It really works. Now the first cast I had was plaster of paris, fresh out of surgery and it was bumpy. Unfortunately, some of the bumps were sharp and I pierced the cover as it is only thin plastic so you have to watch for that. For the price you can't beat it and I think it is also available off the shelf in Walmart and stores like that.

Works Great With A Walking Cast, Too - Just Passing Through on Jun 19, 2011

I have a walking cast (air cast, boot cast), and it is pretty bulky. The Curad Cast Protector works great at covering the boot completely and keeping the boot dry in the shower. My box had no instructions, but the cover is pretty simple to use. Carefully pull the cover over the boot up onto the leg and then ensure that the opening is "sealed" around the leg. I aimed my shower head away from the covered leg, just to be safe.

I have used the same one each day with no leaking. Great value, works very well and easy to use!

Great Simple Cast Cover - Heart on Jan 23, 2011

I bought these because of the low cost thinking I could just try something else if they don't work out. They worked great! The box has 2 covers in it. I was unable to get my foot wet for 6 weeks and used the same cover the whole time. It keep the water out and was not hard to use.

Curad Cast Protector - Castaway on Dec 29, 2011

Bought this to use over my cast so I could shower. This is marvelous! It's easy to put on- no more scraping knuckles on the cast. It doesn't cut off the circulation and the cast stays dry. Wonderful! This is the best one I have ever used. There are 2 in the box. I used one for over 3 weeks and just opened the other one. Medline Curad Cast Protector for Adult Leg - 2 Per Box

Great Thing To Shower With A Cast As Promised - R. Amir on Dec 14, 2011

It does exactly what it says. Keeps the leg dry. is really easy to put on and no need to do anything else, just slipped my leg in the bag hole and that's it. I was afraid water was getting in but my leg was completely dry when i took it off after shower. Wonderful product!

Medline Curad Cast - atkins on Nov 7, 2011

I had to wear a boot 24/7 for a month. I actually got this over the boot, but the leg needed to be longer to fit over the knee. Other than that it is a great idea!

Worth Every Dime But The Gasket Broke After 8 Uses - Debra L. on Oct 26, 2011

I just had bone surgery in my foot. If any water gets into the incision past the stitches, I run the risk of an infection in the bone - a very serious thing and hard to treat. I'll have the cast on for two weeks until the stitches are removed, which is a long time to go with damp wash cloth baths to avoid water on the cast and the incision.

I've used this cast protector three times now, while I've sat upon a plastic chair in the bath tub and let the shower run on me. My cast and leg and foot have remained completely dry under this protector.

I do stick my leg out of the bathtub as an extra precaution, but some of the shower spray still reaches my leg as does splash water. I have complete faith in this protector's ability to completely keep water off the cast using this method. I could probably still safely just let the shower run directly on my leg over the cast protector.

The top end of the protector has a durable gasket, fitting over the upper leg, which is tough, well designed, and appears almost fool proof. There is a strong plastic ring that is used to pull and to move the gasket and the protector over the cast, eliminating stress on the gasket. The large plastic band is also durable and well designed.

I'm very glad I bought this product. Definitely is far superior to using a plastic garbage bag secured on my leg with masking tape to protect the cast, which is what I used for a previous surgery on my other foot.

edit on November 7 2011:

as others have noted in their reviews, this is not a permanently durable product. It has a certain number of uses and then the flexible gasket at the opening rips. I was still able to use it with the rip, by putting the rip on the underside of the knee, as I stick my leg out of the stall anyway. The ripped gasket would not provide adequate protection with a full on shower blast. I give that a poor environmental rating as it will quickly enter the landfill.

Also, I may be reviewing the wrong product, as I only received one of these in a box, instead of two. My one cost about $9.00 plus tax. I still give 5 stars, although it is a bit pricey for such a small number of uses.

Adult Cast Protector - Sandra L. Jones "San on Oct 21, 2011

I sent for these for my mother, who lives in another state. She had just had foot surgery, and wasn't sure what to expect. She said they worked really well, and was so happy to have them..Thanks so much for an excellent product.

Perfect Fit, Waterproof, Must-have If You're Stuck In A Cast! - Kathleen Hepworth-Sp on Sep 12, 2011

You can't beat this price anywhere, even with shipping costs. I have used 1 cover at least 6 times, and it's still just fine. Waterproof, comfortable, not too tight around knee/calf, easy on and easy off.

Fantastic Product - Jim on Aug 26, 2011

Excellent bang for the buck. I'm a big guy and have to wear Una boots oneach leg. Never thought these would fit a guy my size but they do wonderfully. Like a condom for your leg! Price was amazingly low at Amazon too. Give them a try!

Great Product - REM "orca" on Aug 16, 2011

Great product based upon my current useage of the cover for showering. Used 1st cover 10 times before it seemed to be stretching at the leg seal. Using 2nd one right now. Hopefully it will last as long. VG value and keeps the leg dry.

Works Great! - Rebeca A. Collazo on Jul 16, 2011

These bags are very sturdy and can be used over and over without leaking or breaking. They fit over the bulkiest casts. Well worth the money. I really recommend this product.

Great Product - Pamela on Jun 13, 2011

I was quite skeptical when buying this product - how could something so inexpensive do the trick - and one size fit all? I've been using my protector for almost two weeks, it goes on easy, and seals perfectly. Great value, great product.

Day 76 Post Surgery And Working Well... - Kristina M. Capucill on May 31, 2011

I purchased one package of two and they have worked great. This is how I did it. I cut a small corner of one kitchen trash bag (13 gallon?), just large enough for my toes and bottom of cast to poke through. I put my foot though and tucked the cut end of the bag around and into the end of my cast so my toes showed. I then stuffed the top of the bag (regular opening of bag) into the top of my cast, basically wrapping my cast in the bag. No tape required because there is a lot of bag to stuff in each end. I then put the Curad Cast Protector over the total. I did this so I always had a backup. I never needed duct tape and the two bag system has worked for me for 10 weeks. I never had a leak and if I did, I would have had the back up. I am 5'-2", 120 lbs.-ish (I think, I don't weigh myself) and therefore did not stretch out the Curad Cast Protector opening too much getting it over my cast. I therefore only needed one Curad package during this time. If you shower every day, are a man or someone likely to have a larger cast, two packages may be needed. Be gentle with the Curad Cast Protector - it's pretty sturdy but I am sure it could rip. And hang it to dry after (I always towel dried it off after my shower while still siting on the shower seat). Note that before I bought the Curad Cast Protector i tried the duct tape and kitchen bag system and it did not work. And it was terribly uncomfortable.

Almost Worthless - Gimpy on May 27, 2011

this is a basic plastic cover with no means of fastening the top to make it waterproof. I tried using ducktape and water came in both times getting my cast wet. the top of the bag needs to be tapered and then perhaps taping the top would work - my advice is to spend more money and get something thats more rugged and has an easy fastening system.

Pretty Amazing - Julia M on May 26, 2011

When I put it on I was nervous that water would leak in but there wasn't a single drop! This works a million times better than the bag and tape method I was previously using.

My only advice is to make sure that the top is snug on the biggest part of your leg. you might want it up higher but if it sits on the widest part (usually your calf) then nothing will leak through.

Perfectly Dry! - luv2run on Apr 29, 2011

I am 29 years old and had bunion surgery 2 weeks ago. After getting sick of "sponge baths" and one terrible attempt with a real shower, a trash bag, and a load of medical tape, I purchased this cast cover. I did take my large surgical boot off in order to slide my bandaged foot in (I didn't want to stretch out the opening), and I put an extra rubber band around the top (just to be safe). Well, the rubber band rolled down halfway through the shower, but it didn't matter. My foot stayed perfectly dry with the cast cover. It was easy to shake off excess water post-shower, so it's ready to go again tomorrow. Overall, a breath of fresh air after a frustrating couple of weeks.

Wonderful - D. Straughn "loves f on Jan 5, 2011

I recently had the misfortune of fracturing my foot and had to get a cast. I tried the tape and bag method and wet my cast for the first couple of days, wasn't happy. I ordered this protector and I was pleasantly surprised when I used it. This protector is very easy to use and comfortable. I can now take a shower without worrying about my cast getting wet. It is a great product and I highly recommend it for casts that come to mid calf or lower.

Great For One Use Only - K. Harbin on Aug 15, 2010

This product works great but it is not good for continued use.
I think it works best to cover a wound and not a cast.
Definitely would buy again.
