After much research she decided to order the Complete Neti Pot set from Himalayn Institute. The kit comes with a ceramic pot, noniodized salt and zinc suspension. After overcoming the initial strangeness of having water pour from your nostrils, we have both come to feel the benefits of this system, and now we Neti daily.
I wish that it came with a greater supply of the zinc suspension and/or salt.
This product has a learning curve. After a week of use, I finally got the hang on it and could use it to my satisfaction. I prefer warmer water and more salt than they recommend. If I didn't know better, I would say that using more salt makes the polyps shrink and disappear. At least, that is how it feels.
Even when I wasn't using the product completely "correctly", I had immediate relief and found that I could breath very well. One other thing that it has prevented is my usual sinus infection after visiting my parents and we've been back from their place for almost a week. I'm usually sick by now.
I am pleased to tell you that the crawlies DO go away after a while. Warm water makes it better, too. This kit has everything in it you need: salt, super duper liquid stuff, instructions and pot. Get the kit - it's cheaper than buying the Neti Wash separately, and it does make a difference if you have a cold, or are just particularly snotty the day you use it. The instructions have some helpful Yoga positions you can assume to help blow water out of your nose. If you get really good at it you can make a serious impact on the sink. This is probably unhealthy, so don't do that.
I think Neti pots are a single user deal, like with toothbrushes. It's up to you. If you love your partner so much you'd share all their various personal hygiene devices, I guess sharing a Neti pot isn't an issue. It's not like the thing get's nasty - it's really very clean. But I am NOT sharing mine.
I WAS USING MEDICATION EVERY NIGHT TO BE ABLE TO BREATH WHILE I SLEPT. SINCE USING THE NETI POT I HAVE NOT NEEDED THEM ONE TIME. I WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS YEARS AGO. IT TAKES A COUPLE OF TIMES TO GET YOUR TECHNIQUE DOWN AND AFTER THAT ITS SO EASY TO USE.
Anyway, the first time I used this, I put in the recommended amount of salt - this was way too much. As another reviewer mentioned, you want to cut the amount of salt in half otherwise your nasal passages will burn with the pain of a thousand fiery suns. This is not a desired result.
Getting my head into the right position seemed second nature - the directions were pretty descriptive and easy to follow. However one should take care and remember to tilt the head otherwise the water will go down your throat.
But the strangest and best thing, for me, was what happened after. My ears started popping as the sinus cavity cleared. This and of itself isn't strange however my tinnitus (light but present) went away for a little while after! In fact I found that by using the neti pot every day, my tinnitus, while still there, was greatly lessened.
I don't know if this is common, but I'm quite happy with the purchase.
If you follow the directions in the box, and they're not complicated, it doesn't burn and it doesn't hurt. You get a bit of the water-up-the-nose feeling at first (like you just jumped in a swimming pool), but it quickly recedes.
I purchased this product because I couldn't seem to get over a cold and because I have persistent and serious year-round allergies. By "serious" I mean the kind of allergies that wake you up, sneezing, at 3 am and then keep you up. After a single use, I can tell that this little pot is going to drastically improve how I feel. When I read the reviews that say it works better after you've been doing it for awhile, I'm filled with glee because I cannot remember ever having breathed so easily. It's like I have a whole new nose. I can feel the increased resonance in my sinuses, I can smell better, and I can even hear better. I'm amazed and most of all, grateful. While it's true that, as an allergy sufferer, I may be more sensitive to the status of my ears, nose, and throat than most, I still think that if you're on the fence, you should give it a shot. My husband tried it right after I did and felt exactly as I did. I've also tried the saline squeeze-bottles you can get at the drugstore and they don't compare.
I never posted a review to Amazon.com before, but I feel no qualms about giving this nifty little pot five stars.
However, I found that using it on a daily basis that my sinuses were clear but that I had a very nasal sound to my voice and that it felt there was some salt water left behind.
I have reduced my usage to once or twice a week and it seems to keep the sinuses happy while not keeping them soggy.
I figure that you just need to figure out what kind of usage works for you.
Little secret; after you do Neti for couple of weeks, you notice significant decrese in dark circle under your eye!!
I am pleased to say that I tried it for the first time on Sunday, because like I said before, from April through November I had been popping pills. I noticed that in December/January, I couldn't breathe well again at night. Running nose....
My heart started racing as I began the process. Well, surprise, surprise, no issues at all. It fact, the instructions worked so well becaue when water started coming out of the other nostril immediately. I was so startled.
I slept well that night and I have been using it nightly ever since. I no longer have the popping ears, itching mouth and problems breathing.
I actually prayed to GOD that this would be the solution to my pill popping. I am so HAPPY that it worked. I am curious to see how I will fear in April this year but I am SO optimistic.
Thank you for you reviews. Without them, I am not sure I would be 'NETI'ING' now.
i work in a very dusty Environment and my nose was always plugged,
Can't say enough about this.
Why didn't I know about this product decades ago? It was around. Why didn't the doctors for all my past sinus infections tell me about this? I don't know, but therein lies a lesson. I have new power over my health, the power to conquer sinus infections and avoid Z-Packs and other strong drugs. Shazamm!

I've noticed the price for this specific product (the eco pot, salt, solution) fluctuates every week. So, unless it's an emergency, I'd give it a week or so before purchasing it. I paid about $17 for the whole "kit". Hope it works as well as it did for me!
Well this starter kit gives you a lot of stuff. You get a jar of salt. Mine was 'upgraded' to 12 ounces instead of 10. I have been using the salt for 2 weeks and it doesn't even seem to have dented it. It should last at least 3 or 4 months. I cannot vouch for the effectiveness of the essential oil mixture, but I can say that it really cuts down in a pleasant way the saltiness of the water and leaves you with a very pleasant feeling after using the pot.
What has been less impressive overall to me is the Neti pot itself. The claims were that it was a particularly effective design. Not for my nose. It isn't quite as well shaped for me as the cheapo Walgreens one. But again that might be my particular nose structure. But the salt and oils make this a very good value. You should at least try a Neti pot if you have allergies and stick with it. I grew up near the Pacific so had experienced many years of swallowing salt water. Well be prepared to swallow some more until you get use to this. But the learning curve is worth it.
My advice, which wasn't really well articulated in the pamphlet, is to heed the measurements (too much salt will burn, too little salt and your sinuses will close all up) and persist. I'm not sure how to talk about snot without being gross, but if you're finding that you can't get a flow going, pause, give a couple of good hard toots through both nostrils and then resume. Keep doing that until you can get it flowing. If you stop when you're stopped up you'll just have sinus discomfort all day.
I know it seems strange, and don't be alarmed if it takes you a couple of tries to know how to use it right and get used to using it. But once you do, it is definately worth it!
This is a great starter set since it has everything that I need all together in one box. It has detailed instructions that are easy to follow. Also, there are a bunch of videos on YouTube that show people using their Neti pots and they really helped me to do it correctly the first time. I'm so glad that I gave this a try!
***UPDATE***: After having very uncomfortable results using my neti pot at my mother's house (who has a well with water softener), I discovered that using distilled water with the neti works very well. i just put water in a glass measuring cup with a pour spout, microwave the water for 30 seconds, and then it is the perfect temperature for neti.
