Editorial Reviews
HOW DOES IT WORK? Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone, produced by the developing placenta shortly after the conception and secreted into the urine. The pregnancy test contains antibodies which specifically react with this hormone. WHEN TO BEGIN TESTING The length of the menstrual cycle is the duration from your first menstrual bleeding day to the day before the next bleeding begins. Determine the length of menstrual cycle before test. Please refer to the chart below to determine when you should start testing. If your cycle is shorter than 21 days or longer than 38 days, consult a physician. If you do not know your cycle length, you may begin the test 11 days after your first period since the average cycle length is 28 days. Perform 1 test each day over a 5 days period, or until the LH surge has been detected.

P.S Just in case you don't get the instructions (I did) you can apply the same instructions for any other tests - dip for 5 seconds, wait for 5 minutes (although you will usually see a result within a minute or two)etc. For the OPK the test line must be as dark, or darker, than the Control Line (and the Control Line is always the line farthest from the end that you dip in your pee). For the HPT the same rule applies (regarding placement of the Control Line)..and remember a faint test line is a positive! And don't read the results after 5-10 minutes (no matter how tempting it may be!).
The strips come all stuck together which is kind of inconvenient. I took five or ten minutes when I got them to separate them and put them in a couple of sandwich bags (one for the ovulation strips and one for the pregnancy strips)and put them in the cupboard in the bathroom. This just saved time and annoyance later. A small basket or storage container would work just as well. Also, if you don't normally keep paper cups in your bathroom, it's a good idea to buy a box/bag of the smallest size bathroom cups and keep them handy too. I wouldn't go for the most expensive or the bigger sizes because its a waste. I just got the 3 ounce store brand and they work fine.
Did it work? Yes, it did-- I'm currently about 10 weeks pregnant. But it took several tries to figure out the variables and I missed the ovulation window more than once.
Some people say it's hard to read the ovulation tests. I agree... it's hard when you're not doing it right. LOL. We were ttc for 6 months. I finally did it right on our 7th cycle. Because I have irregular cycles and ovulate really late, I test from CD14-AF. Only test around 7-8 p.m. and prior to testing, no drinking/eating/peeing for 2 hrs.
I don't know if everybody is like this but for me, the pink line progressed as the days go by (closer to ovulation). Then the day before ovulation, it's a unmistakable positive (colors match). Though I still get a positive OPK reading for 3-4 days, I read that you should take the first positive OPK as THE one. In my case, that's true!
As for the pregnancy test, it too is accurate. On the evening I felt a warm/tingling sensation on my left ovary (10 dpo), it showed a faint BPF! Not a faint where I had to squint and move the test to a better light. It was a good faint. I confirmed my BFP with a digital FRER test the next morning. I'm still testing at 4 week (just for the heck of it) and it's getting darker each day!
Baby dust to you all....
God bless...
The shipping time was very short and the instructions were sent to my email about and hour after I placed the order. Very simple.
The Devon Medical ovulation tests are "bare bones" (they are thin and flimsy), but work the same as the more expensive store brands. You also get 4 times the amount of test strips for your money!! You do need to collect your urine and dip the stick which can be a little annoying if you check at a time you are normally at work. Results are fast and accurate. Sometimes when used, the "pink dye" that gives results creates a horizontal line across the result area which can obstruct the result reading a bit, but it is usually still able to be read. In the 40 that come in a pack about 3 or 4 in each pack have been "invalid" (e.g., the pink dye doesn't go all the way across the result area or the horizontal striping (as mentioned above) obstructs the reading.)
Overall, these strips are worth it for the money and I will buy them again.
The package arrived very quickly, and contained 40 ovulation strips, 10 pregnancy tests, as well as thorough instruction leaflets for both.
*** After reading/following the directions carefully ***, I tried an ovulation test. It was clearly negative. A few weeks and a handful of negatives later, I do admit I worried that the tests were invalid and feared the price was just too good to be true. Then, BAM, a positive. The tests I'd used 2 days leading up to my positive were a little confusing, but that's only because I wasn't sure what I was looking for. Don't worry, when you see a positive, it's clear as day!
I used these ovulation tests for 3 months or so. I have been waiting until I needed the included pregnancy tests before writing my review, and now that I've had a chance to use them, I can tell you how wonderful they are!
I took my first pregnancy test at midnight (the very beginning of the day that would be the start of my expected period), yes I'm impatient, and I got a positive! At first the second line was faint, so I took another one later that night. The test line darkened significantly. The next day, my doctor confirmed the pregnancy!
I'm so very impressed with this product. The amount you get for the price is fantastic, and the quality is great. These strips are exactly what they should be for their purpose. Nothing fancy, but effective and affordable. It is the perfect option for those of you with irregular cycles where you are going to need many tests to pinpoint your day of ovulation. I also think it was very thoughtful of them to also toss in 10 additional pregnancy tests which work just as well.
Note: The minor inconvenience of having to pee in a little cup was just that, minor. As mentioned earlier, the confusion of results can be a little frustrating, but the confusion instantly dissipates once you actually SEE what a positive looks like. After that, it's easy to recognize.
Don't hesitate to purchase!
These are a great tool to have while trying to conceive. I started out using First Response tests exclusively, but were becoming very expensive, as it took us 22 months to conceive. My advice is to buy these, and cross check them with a more expensive brand when you think you have a positive as sometimes the lines are not as bold and clear as the First Response brand.
I wanted to add that after many months of testing, I found that I don't have to follow the directions exactly in terms of the temperature of the urine sample. A warm sample always gave me the same results as a room temp sample. I know my husband didn't love having a cup of urine sitting on the back of the toilet "to cool" before testing.
Instructions are clear and it is all very easy. Dip the stick into the liquid and wait 5 min... Well here is where it gets tricky. Once the results are ready you kinda second-guess yourself. Is that line dark enough to show ovulation or is it not? Well I had to use many sticks and I wondered many times if that light red line was what I was looking for...
But no, once you ovulate that strip on the stick will turn the same color as the control line if not even darker. So once you see it you will know what color you are looking for.
Good Luck to all you wanna-be-moms out there :) !!
I'm not sure about the pregnancy tests because I used the First Response tests to find out on day 8 past ovulation. But I would recommend the OPK.
Highly recommended
It only took me once, and I am pregnant now, so I was able to use the pregnancy testing strips. On day 26, I tested and found there to be the faintest line. I will say that the lines do not show up as prominent as the ovulation test strips that I was using, however, it did show up.
Very pleased and would encourage anyone that wants to get pregnant or even avoid being pregnant (birth control) that these are a great product for a wonderful price!!
After a few weeks of use I'm glad I decided to go with these strips instead of the expensive store bought digital tests. The strips are easy to read, use and are accurate...not to mention cheap. Granted collecting your urine in a cup isn't very pleasant [especially half asleep], but it's better than the error-prone digital tests [more accurate too] and the pregnancy tests are a nice bonus.
I would recommend them for anyone trying to get pregnant. I got my positive the first month using them!
Second of all, the ovulation strips never gave me a positive result, even though I tested twice a day. I know I ovulated because the ultrasound showed my erupted follicle already released an egg, and my blood test also showed that I ovulated. I know I have a short LH surge, which is why I test twice a day. I had NEVER missed my surge ever since I tested twice a day, until now.
I had always been impressed with internet test strips, so I thought I'd try these ones because they were cheaper than what I had purchased before. But this batch was unfortunately a disappointment.
**Update 01/13/2012**
My husband and I only had sex once on the first day I received a positive on the OPK and now, 15 DPO, I am pregnant!!! As I mentioned, I have a very irregular cycle, averaging about 40 days but have had months when I did not even get my period. We are so happy but shocked at the same time that we got pregnant the first time using these strips. The pregnancy test clearly showed two lines, but I went to the store immediately and bought an expensive brand name test to confirm and got a BFP too! Highly recommend these strips and GL to all.
I never received instructions but looked at other womens reviews to figure out how they work.
Any suggestions ladies?
They are fairly cheap so I test twice a day(first morning urine and in the p.m.) to be sure I am getting accurate readings.
