ClearBlue Easy- Fertility Sticks and Monitor Package, 1ct

But, this is an expensive machine, and I think that not everyone needs it. If your cycles are regular there are other low tech ways to know when you're ovulating, e.g. charting your temperatures (read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility", a very empowering book) and looking for other biological clues which I won't get into here.
I like the monitor itself but am really not fond of the company who makes it--they are really trying to shake women down for every last penny. There is no way this machine should cost as much as it does, considering how simple it is. Also, they tell you that you need to use sticks only from the same package in case there are discrepancies in quality from package to package--technically, then, you will be throwing away a whole lot of (expensive, polluting) unused sticks. If there are quality discrepancies, that is their quality control problem! Yet, they want to pass this cost on to you.
Also, they tell you that you cannot pass your machine onto another person when you're done with it because a) it "learns" you and b) might be contaminated with bacteria. First of all, it also says that it only retains 6 months of info before erasing the data month by month as more data is recorded (i.e. it only "remembers" your most recent 6 months of info). This means that it could in fact "learn" a new person. Also, the bacteria b.s. is just to cover their heinies in the case that someone does pass on disease, but urine does not really come in contact with the monitor, only the strips. Also, urine is an antiseptic! So, it's not going to carry disease in that manner. In other words, they want every woman on the planet to buy their own monitor.
So, for women with irregular periods, I do recommend this. But, give yourself some credit to know your own body and its powers as well. If your periods are regular and you use this thing and get pregnant, don't act like this machine did it for you--you and your man had something to do with it too! Let's not glorify technology too much here.
[Postscript: I miscarried on that pregnancy. Again, not the monitor's responsibility. ;) However, I have again gotten pregnant, by making sure to take advantage of the 2 fertile days per cycle that it identifies for you. It solidified my confidence in this product, since I tried to "wing it" for a few months without the monitor with no results. Also, my friend who has an irregular cycle got pregnant very soon after using this. I still believe it is overpriced, but if you're really having trouble with timing, it might be worth it for you.]
Important Points...
1. SHARING THE MONITOR- It says not to share because it can be contaminated with urine. Urine does not touch the monitor. The test strip is soaked with urine and covered with a cap before it is inserted into the machine. I wouldn't buy a used one from a stranger, but I would share with a close friend. It also says the monitor stores your data and therefore won't work properly for a friend. It has directions for clearing the data. You have to clear it if you've stopped using it for a prolonged period and want to start again, so obviously it can be cleared before given to someone else.
2. TEST STRIPS- Buy them from Amazon. They are much cheaper than in stores. They advise to discard extra sticks if you don't have at least 10 for the next cycle. I never threw any away and the monitor appeared to work fine even when I mixed sticks from different boxes.
3. DIRECTIONS- I could give you step by step directions here, but you can go to [...]and read the entire manual. It is very thorough and helpful. The machine is very easy to use.
4. NOT FOR EVERYONE- Obviously, if you have reproductive issues this isn't going to solve them. I have a friend that TTC for quite some time and after using the monitor for a few months she found out she wasn't ovulating. Her doctor confirmed that, gave her fertility medication, and she conceived. Although she didn't get pregnant while using the monitor it still helped her. If you're not pregnant after 6-12 months with this monitor you should see your doctor in case something else is going on.
5. PREGNANCY TESTS- Buy these cheap prenancy tests. 25 pregnancy test strips They sell them in different quantities, but you can get soooo many for the price of just 1 name brand test. They work great and save a lot of money especially if you get obsessive about testing.

On a brighter note, I did conceive in the 3rd month thanks to using Toni Weschler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility book along with this product. I used her temperature charting and cervical fluid checking methods, and with only 2 days of well-timed BD in the 3rd month, I am in the very early stages of pregnancy.
I like the idea of this product and wanted to love it, but I think having a back-up method (such as charting other fertility signs) would be helpful when trying to conceive. I can give this product very little credit for my pregnancy and owe my thanks to the Taking Charge of Your Fertility book. Good luck to all who are TTC!
If you are trying to get pregnant, try this! I was sceptical, but it worked!
This product will tell you your peak days. I had a regular period, but not a 14 day ovulation. I always had problems reading those ovulation test where you had to look at the lines, I could never tell if one was darker than the other, the same etc. This tells you how fertile you are each day and shows and egg symbol near ovulation.
FYI - I wish I would have know this, but you can not use this test after you are already past day 5 of your cycle. You have to set it during those first few days. So remember that when ordering the product. It's disapointing when you get it... and can't start using it right away. However, it's well worth the price!
What this product does do (Pros):
Identifies the days leading up to and of ovulation
What this product doesn't do (Cons):
Allow you to review your historical cycles
Test for pregnancy (I know that's obvious - but at this price range I would expect a product to be able to do BOTH)
Get you pregnant (again, obvious, but the reviewers that say they got pregnant a few months after using this product did not know their cycles to begin with!)
Allow you to test outside the 6 hour window
So, how to get to know your cycle. I highly recommend the fertility strips that amazon also sells that are about 25 cents each. Yes, 25 cents each. You do have to urinate in a cup and then dip the test stick in a cup, but this is a small inconvenience. You should begin testing once a day by day 10 of your cycle (maybe earlier if you have a short cycle), and as soon as you see a faint second line on the product begin your every other day activity until you see the surge, and then perhaps bump it up to every day. I ended up using the Clearblue easy as well as these strips and got the EXACT SAME RESULTS with both products. In fact, I kept using the strips even with clearblue because I wanted to know exactly when my surge occurred to figure out my 24 to 36 hour window.
Print off a free online calendar and keep track of the date, when your cycle started, when you started to see a faint line and then a surge, etc. Then you can hold onto these to reference back to them. You can optionally also track your basal body temperature, but I don't find this to be as convenient.
This product really is gimmicky in my opinion, it does nothing other than test your LH, which can be done with the inexpensive test strips. I would recommend saving your money! If you don't have a regular cycle, I highly recommend trying the root vegetable Maca. After taking Maca for just a week I ovulated on day 14 when I normally ovulate on day 17-19!
I didn't want to be stuck paying tons of money buying the monitor sticks, so I kept a calendar keeping track for 6 months when I ovulated. It was all very consistent (for me, maybe not for others) so after I ran out of sticks I was able to take the information I had learned and pin point the days I would be ovulating without having to use this monitor.
My advise, skip the cheap whole sale ovulation sticks and just get this one. You will save precious time and money.
One tip for storing the monitor. leave it out of the bathroom when showering since water moisture can damage the monitor.
Good Luck!
The product did what it is meant to do. It tells you your fertile period with 100% accuracy. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who plans to be on the family way.
I personally had a little trouble in understanding when to tell the monitor when you start your new cycle. Ideally, the 1st day of your periods is when your periods start however per the booklet, if your periods start during day time you tell the monitor the next day. Didn't make sense to me or maybe I didn't understand it properly hence the 4 stars else it is well worth 5 stars.
Eitherways, I'd highly recommend this product.
Good luck to everyone and Thanks Clearblue for this product!
I used it for a couple of months and did not get pregnant and went to a fertility specialist and after a few months of seeing a specialist we decided to do a laproscopy to see if I had endometriosis. They found out I had severe endo and removed it. I had to recover for 2 months and on the 3rd month I planned to go back to the fertility treatments. I started using the monitor on the 3rd month while i waited to go back...and to my suprise I finally got pregnant!!!! - I think the monitor works great if you don;t have underlying issues like i did.
I think it is worth every penny and takes all the guess work out of when your fertile days are!
These are my thoughts--I believe if you are healthy (not over- or underweight), exercise regularly and have regular periods, this machine will take the guess work out of predicting ovulation.
My husband and I began trying in January with no ovulation-tesing help. The next two months we used the ovulation pee-sticks. No luck. Having the fact that I was turning 35 in April sitting in the back of my mind, we decided to get serious. After reading these reviews, we bought the monitor and discovered I was actually ovulating a few days earlier than the pee-sticks had indicated. I ovulated on my 35th birthday, and I'm sitting here now as pregnant as can be.
This product isn't the answer to infertility, but it takes out the guess work and is worth the small investment.
I must say that I also chart, as outlined in the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Although I strongly recommend charting, my body signals were too confusing that month and I couldn't have guessed the delayed ovulation based on charting alone (until after the fact).
Bottom line, I strongly recommend this product, takes the guesswork and stress out of the equation, and it worked the first time we used it.
The only thing that peeved me a bit, was that the monitor kept asking me for test sticks a long time after I ovulated, which I thought was unnecessary, and most likely a scam to use up more sticks than needed. In fact the monitor prompted me to use 20 sticks, instead of 10 in one month.
The only way this monitor could be better, would be if it could double as a pregnancy testing device. Perhaps they could come up with a different set of sticks for testing HCG levels.
Good Luck to everyone!!
Ladies, every woman is different and sure, not everything works for everybody. But as someone with not a lot of time left on my "mommy clock", this gave me hope. Even my sister-in-law who is an IVF nurse recommends this! Good luck to all of you.
In my case, I also used Pre-Seed, and was trying to take really good care of myself. The book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a great resource, but I think that Clear Blue Easy does a better job at charting--since I think I was always missing it by a day or two.
Good Luck!
The monitor I received is defective. I don't know if it's because the seller shipped it in a paper envelope from overseas (the sticks were completely squashed upon arrival) or because the product simply doesn't work. I also bought Ovuquick on the same day just to compare the results, Ovuquick works perfectly.
I never understand why the ClearBlue Easy menu says if you hold it in a stream of urine, it will take 3 seconds. But if you submerge it in a cup of urine, it's 15 seconds. Should it be the other way around?
I think the only good thing about this product (and why some people have successful results) is because it forces you to start testing on day 6. Sometimes I missed my ovulation day because I tested too late (day 10). But this has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the product.
