Breathe Right Nasal Strips Help You Breathe Air In And Out During Sleep - David Hume on Jan 21, 2009

Breathe Right nasal strips are the most effective way of increasing the flow of air into and out of the nasal passages during sleep. When you adhere the strip to the outside of your nose, the strip springs open and provides more space for air to flow during inhalation and exhalation through the nostrils. The strips come in Tan and Clear and in sizes Small/Medium and Large. I like the Tan because they stay on the nose all night as opposed to the Clear which are less adhesive and more prone to falling off. Most people will use the Small/Medium size unless your nose is large. When applying the strip, only remove the backing so that the outside ends of the strip are adhesive (leave the middle part covering the bridge of the nose unadhesive). To remove the stickiness in the morning, take a 2" x 2" piece of non-sterile gauze moistened with a little water and gently rub off [you can buy 200 pieces of non-sterile gauze in a pharmacy or hospital supply store for $3].

Way Better Than A CPAP - AgedWireHead on Jan 18, 2011

If you are a "nose breather" and have nasal passages that develop restricted air flow when you lay down, or perhaps you have a deviated septum, or both, you will almost certainly find Breathe Right Nasal Strips to be of great help at improving your sleep--and possibly reducing your snoring.

The strip attaches to your nose using a mild but effective adhesive, and two plastic "springs" want to straighten out, lifting the outside of the nose just enough to provide clear air passages.

Learning to install the strip to your best advantage can be a trial and error exercise. The instructions show one position to install the strip, but it isn't necessarily the best for each person. If your nose is long, the position shown might not lift at the best spot, making you think these won't work for you.

There are two lengths of strips, one marked "small/medium" and one marked "large". Most folks need the small/medium. If the strip comes down onto your face, use the smaller strip. The strips also come in a clear version and a "scratch and sniff" version with menthol. They now have a new "super" version that is much wider, covering more of the nose with 3 springs, that makes it much easier to place the strip effectively.

If you feel the outside of your nose, squeezing lightly, you will note there is a cartilage ridge that supports the center of your nose from top to bottom. There are also two projections of harder cartilage that support the sides of the nose up near your face. Most folks can't lift the hard cartilage away from the center ridge, but just below the hard side cartilage, there is soft flesh that the Breathe Right strip will easily lift. I find that I need to place the strip just below the hard cartilage to get the most effect from the strip.

I don't care what they look like when I wear them, and I have no intention to wake up to scratch the menthol to activate it, so I stick with the small/medium tan version.

Something you might notice is that when you first lay down, your nose will want to "close up" even when wearing the strip. This is because you get the blood that was "pooling" in your legs while standing to equalize into the rest of the body when you lay down, swelling the nasal membranes. Generally this effect will go away in a few minutes as your blood vessels and heart adjust. Raising the head of your bed 6 or 8 inches can also minimize this effect.

A con for these strips is that dry and cold weather will cause your skin to thin and get dry. When this happens you must be very careful when you remove the strip in the morning. Removing it in a hot shower with soap usually eases removal. If you are not careful, you will remove a small area of the epidermis on the top of your nose, and possibly on your cheek if the strip is too long. A tiny amount of lotion (apply with a Q-tip) on the top of your nose before installing the strip will prevent the problem.

This leads into one more item, cleaning your nose before installing the strip. Folks are different, but many folks have oily or waxy skin on the sides of their nose. Excessive oil, wax, lotion, etc. will prevent the strip from sticking properly. Wash and dry your face before installing the strip. If your nose is still too oily or waxy, and this happens certain times of the year, use a little alcohol or Sea Breeze to wipe only the sides of your nose before installation.

Amazingly, the strip will generally keep sticking even if you exercise and sweat a lot, but it does make it easier to remove the strip, so if you exercise first thing in the morning, keep the strip on until after you finish your exercise regimen.

So what about snoring? If you are a nose-breather, using Breathe Right nasal Strips will reduce how much you open your mouth to breathe, and that will reduce snoring. It will also prevent the vibration in your nose that causes some snoring. It will not reduce the snoring that emanates from your throat when your tongue falls and the sides of your throat vibrate when you breathe through your mouth. Breathe Right has made two products that help with throat snoring. One is Breathe Right Throat Spray and the other is Breathe Right Throat Strips. The spray has been remarkably effective for me, while the strips, if placed far enough back on the tongue (hard for me to do) are also quite effective. What the spray does is coat your throat with some pleasant oils that lubricate the flesh and keep it taught. Most amazing is that it has eliminated my sore throats. Unfortunately, Breathe Right has been bought by a large company and it appears that they are only going to continue making the strips. C'est la vie.

Oh, and buying this product on the Amazon subscription plan is smart and easy!

Better Sleep - Raul A. Vera on Mar 22, 2010

I remember seeing these many years ago and thinking, "now that's just silly". I was so wrong; these strips are great.

I can't take decongestants so my allergies would keep me up all night trying to get air through. While the strips can't do anything about your sinuses they do flair your nostrils just enough to make a big difference. I use them often and get a much better night's rest.

By the way, they're not just for sleep. The clear ones are great for daytime use.

New Adhesive? - Rex Tuttle "Kingtut" on Feb 5, 2009

No problem with supplier. Excellent service. I've used the strips many times in the past and they were perfect. They still are, however, the adhesive is now TOO good. I have a really difficult time getting the strips off my nose, even with water and soap. I've had to stop using them because my nose get so sore, even on the inside. Naturally I want them to stick good but this is rediculous.

Excellent Product To Help You Breath At Night - M. Tolan on Jul 5, 2011

I've been using Breathe Right Sm/Med Tan nasal strips for years. They have effectively solved my sleeplessness due to nasal congestion. After trying several store brand and other versions from Breathe Right, I personally found this product to be my preference. Some of the reasons:

- Good adhesive: The clear strips from Breathe Right seem to come unglued at night, probably due to my skin being more on the oily side. Additionally, I found the clear versions and many of the store brands leave a gummy residue on my skin in the morning. I would give a warning, the adhesive on these is particularly strong and my not be suitable for someone with sensitive skin.
- Size: I would consider my nose to be around medium, and these fit perfect. The large strips don't fit me and end up being uncomfortable if I try.
- Shape: Several competing store brands have other unique shapes. I haven't found any that work as effectively as the Breathe Right. As a special note, I tried both the Breathe Right Extra and Breathe Right Advanced, and did not care for the shape as much. The Extra seemed too large with the three bands across the nose. The Advanced was close, though I could only find it in a clear variety, and as I mentioned above I dislike the adhesive found on those.

Overall an excellent choice if you want to improve congested breathing at night.

Can't Sleep Without 'em. - Amanda on Mar 25, 2011

I'm in Afghanistan and I have never had such bad allergies in my life. No amount of allergy medication or nasal spray relieves the congestion, especially at night. The strips are not bothersome at all and I breathe and sleep comfortably. Worth every penny.

Can't Sleep Without Them! - spurmom on Mar 3, 2011

I have loved these for a very long time, and now find that I have a difficult time sleeping without wearing one. Breathing rocks! The issue that some people have: pulling skin off your nose when removing the strip--I find that if you pull them off very slowly you can avoid the problem. I have skinned my nose when removing a strip, but it's because I mindlessly pulled it off too fast.
I prefer the look of the clear ones, but they will not stay on. So I have gone back to my tan ones, and am very happy.
AND, I am thrilled to get them on auto-delivery. No more searching the shelves at the big box stores looking for the right size (which they never have) and to make it even cooler, the price is better too!

Snore No More - B. Fincher on Feb 9, 2010

My husband uses these every night and almost never snores anymore :) I've even used them when I've had a cold. They open up your sinuses and make breathing much easier. I HIGHLY recommend them.

Excellent For Sleeping - Mystic "Maven" on Jan 14, 2010

I have a hard time breathing through my nose, especially at night. I used to use Nasonex almost every night to help me sleep better. Now, all I do is put on a Breathe Right strip before bed. It works excellent!! My Nasonex usage has gone from 20-25 doses a month, to once a month at the most.

Essential Item For Me To Sleep - paratwa on Oct 24, 2009

I must use a BiPAP machine every night (& some days)due to ALS, but I also have significant seasonal allergies. This product is effective for ensuring that the nasal passages are open and functional. They apply easily, remove easily, and keep the nostrils open so that I can use the breathing assistance of the machine.

Not Perfect, But Beats Separate Bedrooms Or Earplugs - K. B. Fenner on Dec 16, 2008

My husband has a narrow bridge on his nose and the slightest congestion results in snorting snoring. I have tried wearing earplugs but my ears get itchy, and I'd rather sleep with him--emphasis on "sleep" and "with him." Breathe Right strips help most of the time--they are not for the throaty choking kind of snoring that may go away if you lie on your side and may require a C-PAP machine--they are just for stuffy nose snoring. They don't seem to work on my nose when I get a stuffy nose, but they help him for the most part. The generic kind don't work nearly as well, either.

The Best Item For A Better Night Sleep - game play addict on Jan 8, 2012

I've been using these strips, these particular ones Breathe Right for a good night sleep for the last three years. Don't bother with the cheaper CVS or drug store brands. These strips will stay on your nose for 9 to 10 hours as long as you wash your face specifically your nose prior to applying the strip. It opens up the nasal passage way so you can breathe easier. A must buy that I use every night.

Great Product - Though I Prefer The Breathe Right "Extra" - Carla on Jan 2, 2012

I use Breathe Right strips every night as I suffer from sleep apnea/allergies and they help me breathe so much better when I sleep. While the regular strips work well, I prefer the Breathe Right "Extra" strips, which are a little bit stronger than these, or even the Breathe Right "Advanced" which have 4 points of "pull."

While I would give the Extra or Advanced strips 5 stars, I give these only 4 stars.

Doesn't Work - Christiane Fernandes on Aug 22, 2011

I bought because I saw at tv, but doens't worked for me. I can't feel anything diferent, my husband tried too, he hated.

Better Sleep - Elizabeth Dale "moth on Aug 8, 2011

I need to use Breathe Rite strips every night to be able to breathe through my nose since my sinuses swell every evening and there are no side affects from these as drugs have. This is much cheaper as well, especially this great deal I found on Amazon. Make sure your nose is cleaned of any oils or makeup before trying to get them to stick. Personally, I clean my nose surface with some rubbing alcohol on cotton before applying these since I have oily skin.

Really Works! - Nime on Aug 7, 2011

I can't believe these really work! When I have allergies and my nose is clogged, I put them on, and 95% of the time, they work. Also works for stuffy nose when I have a cold.

Nice Subscription Deal - Citizen John on Jul 31, 2011

These breathe right strips help. I found that the medium ones worked best for me after trying also the large strips.

Once you locate a deal, like this one using the subscription deal, you're most the way there. The downside is getting all the goo off your face in the morning. You really need a washcloth to do this.

Hopefully, the price will keep trending down. This is an innovative product.

Thanks! - TerriKHNC on Jul 19, 2011

These Breathe Right strips are for my father who has COPD. They help him breathe easier during the night. THANKS!

Snoring Less - Terry Royse "Santa C on Jul 16, 2011

These strips actually help me snore less. They tend to come loose after a few hours but last me almost through the night.

Great For COLDS, More AWAKE In Morning. - Thundersinspring on Jun 11, 2011

My wife has used them for years, and they help her snoring somewhat.

I had a BAD COLD and couldn't breath through my nose AT ALL, and was having difficulty sleeping because I would wake up GASPING FOR AIR. My wife suggested I try a nose aid. I tried it and I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW WELL I COULD BREATH THROUGH MY NOSE! I slept super, and felt really good in the morning, actually better than normal. I used it a few more nights, and kept feeling better than normal in the morning. I stopped, when my cold was gone, but am thinking about using one tonight. I could use some extra energy! :-D

I Can Sleep Better - JPS "Hammer" on Mar 24, 2011

I have allergies and I also snore. This definitely opens up my nose and helps me sleeping better. I think that I like the Mentholated Vapor version better, though.

Helped My Dad But Not Me - Fr. Charles Erlandso on Feb 24, 2011

My Mom and Dad recommended these nasal strips, along with using the Breathe Right throat strips. Apparently, this combination has been the only thing that has made my dad's snoring more tolerable for my Mom. My Mom was clear that I should try the "Extra," and not the weaker versions of the nasal strips.

However, after having used them for several weeks, I can't say I've noticed any difference in myself. They did open my nasal passages more, it's true, but they didn't help me with my snoring or not getting a good night's sleep.

I guess each user is different. They may be worth your trying them: they worked (with the nasal strips) for my Dad, but not for me. They're inexpensive enough that they're worth a shot for anyone who has a problem with snoring or sleep apnea.

Breathe Easy - PansyChicken on Dec 13, 2010

I have used these nightly for a couple of years. I started ordering them off of Amazon around a year ago or so because I was constantly running out of them and not having others. The subscribe and save makes it easy.

They are easy to use, clean your nose, take it out of the package and put it your nose like a band-aid. You'll be able to tell that you can breathe easier almost immediately. I'd highly recommend them. I find that the tan ones stick better than the clear ones. (Though the new "advanced" strips work even better yet.)

Overall, if you are trying to breath better or have nightly congestion, I'd recommend getting these - you'll be pleased.

Work Great But A Little Too Sticky - K. Swanson "bbypooki on Jan 7, 2010

I love these nasal strips. I have a deviated septum and as long as I'm wearing these, I no longer wake up in the middle of the night because my nose is clogged up. The only problem I have with this style in particular is when I take them off in the morning they are often stuck so strongly that it hurts to pull off. I eventually get sores on my nose from pulling the skin off so often. I'm going to switch back to the clear ones because they don't cause that problem.

Really Helps You Sleep - unclenana on Oct 13, 2009

Really help open up nasal passages. Order some for you or for your significant other!

Works Great. Right Size Matters. - John Hutchins on Sep 21, 2009

The strips work great. Just make certain that you order the appropriate size. I bought the large locally once because they were out of the small/mediums, and they were uncomfortable and ineffective. Getting the right size really matters. Also, the clear ones, those labeled for sensitive skin, and all the other brands I've tried simply do not stick well, particularly if you have oily skin. Besure to wash your face immediately before applying, and take them off in the morning either in the shower or after having soaked them well with a warm wet cloth first. Otherwise, after a few nights you are going to have a sore, red nose!

Great Price - Teresa Tepper on Sep 12, 2009

Good price, good seller will order from them again..my husbands still snoring so you have a long term client here..lol!!!

Breathe Right Strips - N. Rich on Jun 14, 2009

I have used these nasal strips for a few years. I have chronic allergies and HATE to have a stuffy nose. These strips help really well for me. I use them at night so that I can lie down and still have a clear nose.

I bought the two-pack of 30 strips each at Amazon because of the great price. These are hard to find on sale, and the retail price of them can be costly.

If you have any kind of "stuffy nose" problems, give these a try. You would probably want to start off with a smaller box, but if you like them, buy the larger boxes here.

I Can Breathe Again! - bjmoose on Jun 10, 2009

These are the original product, and they work great! I get a lot of congestion at night, and this helps me breathe much better - I love them! A word of advice - don't ever waste your money on a generic brand. I tried a couple and they just don't work!

Breathing Freely Again! - Gabrielle Callison on Apr 22, 2009

I have a slightly deviated septum and I live in "Allergy Country" in northern California. I discovered these nasal strips at the store when I had a cold, but use them now almost nightly during allergy season. Thanks to these nasal strips I can breathe now freely and sleep again very soundly and feel refreshed in the morning.
Even my husband, who sometimes woke me up with some light snoring, has started to use them and now he sleeps very quietly!
I have tried the clear ones, too, but they aren't as strong and don't keep my nasal passages quite as open as the tan ones. I never knew what a difference in sleep quality the ability to breathe freely makes!

I Can Breathe Again!!! - Country Girl on Apr 21, 2009

These little strips are wonderful for a person with allergies or a bad cold. They completely do the job they advertise. I highly recommend this product to anyone with a stuffy nose.

Product Fine Invoice, Not So Much... - E. H. Muller on Dec 1, 2010

I sent the Breathe Right to my brother in Seattle, so he can bring the contents when he comes over for Christmas. He mailed me, a bit puzzled because the package contained the ordered items alright but the invoice was for a pregnancy test. Since I am almost 50 and have no partner, no interest in having children and my brother is older than I am am has no plans to procreate he was very surprised. Please, in future try not to mix the invoices up.
:) Kind regards,
Emmy Muller
