Editorial Reviews
Accu-Chek Multiclix Lancing Device The Accu-Chek Multiclix lancing device is a world first in diabetes care. Safety and convenience are combined, since no handling of lancets is necessary. Six (6) lancets are preloaded in a drum making it easy to change. The drum can simply be discarded in the household waste. This unique lancing device also minimizes tissue tearing and pain, allowing you to test as frequently as your healthcare team recommends. 11 Penetration Depth Settings The Accu-Chek Multiclix comfort dial has 11 penetration depth settings, which lets you adjust to match skin type. This reduces pain by avoiding contact with deeper nerves. Once set, it stays in place. No Accidental Pricking With no risk of accidental pricking and easy lancet change, the Accu-Chek Multiclix makes regular testing less painful, fast and safe. With The Accu-Chek Multiclix Lancing Device You'll Never See or Handle a Lancet Again!

However I was just expecting the Lancet device. To my surprise I received the device, two lancet drums and an Accu-Check Aviva Meter!
Cool! ... Bonus!
But we didn't take their word for it, knowing that selling/recommending certain medical brands/supplies is an income-generator for providers. When we got back to his hospital room, we tried the regular lancets used by the nurses and then this Multiclix lancet on ourselves. In this case they were right, it does hurt less and the little cut IS smaller. You click the rounded top like a pen to "load" the lancet, then you push the yellow button on the side to "shoot" it. That's how I had to describe it to my child, his older brother, and their grandfather so they would understand. lol. Twist the clicking part to switch to a new lancet. It has depth settings (1-6, with half-depths too -- 1.5, 2.5, etc) depending on your needs.
Take care not to drop this device on a hard floor, like we did in the hospital. The "round" of lancets could fall out, and once it does you won't be able to get it back in. I'm sure this is for safety reasons, so people don't try to wash and reuse them.
Overall, devices like this make an otherwise difficult and trying time a little easier. We like it. It's tidy in our diabetic supply kit and we don't have to carry around tiny pieces of anything (like individual lancets).
The loading of a number of lances is a nice idea. The hole is offset to one side and is, in fact, easier to place the lancing spot accurately! However, the lance button is on the side (as have been the others I have used), and -In My Opinion - is inferior to the Softclix Plus's end. Also, often the priming the device occasionally/often does not "take", and I have to push the top button a second/third time.
The Multiclix's multi-lance magazine is nice, but not very useful to me. Now I hate to go against medical advice, but I use the same lance a great number of times. It is (as on almost all devices) inside the device so it doesn't get touched except when it quickly goes in and out. If it got infected, then it would have infected me the first time it lanced me. THIS IS NOT TRUE IF MORE THAN ONE PERSON USES THE SAME DEVICE!!!! In that case always always change the lance! IF there is the slightist hint that the lance got touched or otherwise contaminated, I replace it *immediately*. So if you follow my example -- not recommended -- be wise, and careful.
Accu-Check Softclix Plus is the best I've used. I've tried a (small) number of lancing devices in my 55 years of being an insulin dependent diabetic. Of course I didn't/couldn't start testing blood for a great many of those years (for years, only urine tests for the home).
I like that the action to prime and lance are the same, just push the button! Separate pushes. Once to prime, then again to lance. It is quick and easy. When I ordered my first one I also ordered two others. One was a cute little thing -- that I didn't like. Too small for me and I don't think I liked the feel of the lancing either. Cute thou!
Anyway, I rate the "Accu-Check Softclix plus" very highly. I'm buying a second once since I have two kits, and I would hate it if/when one got destroyed/lost and they stopped making them.
I received my Multiclix Tuesday and, surprisingly, it is virtually pain free. No more wincing. No more clenching. Granted, it takes a little more effort to get a sample, but not a bad trade off. I can carry a week's worth of lancets in a coin purse. If one could love a lancing device, this would be it.
