I am a recently diagnosed Type 1 diabetic and I am learning just how expensive it is to live with this disease, even with health insurance. I've tried a few different glucometers and I have to say that I am most satisfied with the Accu-Chek Aviva. Unfortunately, the strips go for about $50 for a box of 50 at retailers such as Target and Wal-Mart. Thank God for Amazon because I get the exact same product for OVER 50% less the cost of buying it at a store. So in review of the product, it work amazingly well and it's a great price. I highly recommend it.

I purchased Six boxes for which three were set to expire within two months of the purchase date and the other three within six months of my purchase date. The test strips are not used on a daily bases and the expiration dates are important to stay within my state requiremnts. I have purchased in bulk at other medical supplies and paid $4-5 more per box but the dates were one to two years from purchae date. I would pay the extra money next time because in essence these will have to be disposed of so I lost moe money in the long run. What a waste, this company should tell the consumer the expiration dates and give them the option to shop around. Not such a good deal if your throwing the test strips away.

I got these and the test meter to check my glucose, even though I am not diabetic. The meters don't cost much. Company makes its money on the test strips and lancets. The meter, strips and lancet gun works fine. I test once a week or so now. Took some time to get the hang of it. Meter reads high for me (measures 117 immediately before and 107 immediately after blood draw in lab, where results were 85). Yes, I fasted for 12 hours before test. Anyway, it works well.

I ordered the Accu-Check Aviva Mail Order Test Strips with some trepidation after reading some bad reviews here. I am pleased to announce that my order arrived and all is well -- the expiration date on the strips is 06/2012, or 14 months into the future. The strips passed the Level 1 and Level 2 control solution tests. I will continue to order these strips to supplement my VA prescription (they only allow one strip every 3 days for non-insulin users!). Also, for all of you computer-savy guys out there using Aviva meters who really care about your diabetic control, I recommend you check into Accu-Check 360 software and IR USB cable sold on their website for $35. Well worth the investment.
